Amancio Ortega was born on 28 March 1936 in Busdongo P Arbás, León, Spain, to Antonio Ortega Rodríguez and Josefa Gaona Hernández as the youngest of the four Children.He spent his childhood days in León. At age 14, he left his college and proceeded to A Coruña because of his dad’s job.

The shop was a success and this motivated Ortega to start several more Zara shops across Spain in the subsequent decade. The tag Zara is a part of the Inditex group.
In 2011, Ortega announced his retirement in the Inditex Group, the parent company of the Zara chain. The next year, he donated about $20 million into the Roman Catholic relief organisation, Caritas Internationalis.
