Dave Grohl is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, who is best known for his work with the rock band Foo Fighters. He’s been playing guitar since he was a kid and learned most of what he knows through YouTube videos. He eventually learned to play drums on his own, with John Banham as his primary influence.

Grohl continued to play drums for Nirvana after Kurt Cobain’s death in 1994, and he did so until 1996. He formed the Foo Fighters after the untimely breakup of Nirvana. In addition to his work as a drummer and singer, he co-founded the rock band Them Crooked Vultures. Grohl is a multi-instrumentalist who is adept at acoustic and electric guitars, bass, and the keyboard. His band, Foo Fighters, has performed at numerous charity concerts and festivals, including the “Citizen Festival” and the “Concert for Sandy Relief.”

Grohl has been vocal in the past about his support for LGBT rights. The mayor of Warren, Ohio presented him with the city’s key in 2009. The guitarist has been the subject of numerous murals along David Grohl Alley, a roadway named for him. When Virginia and James Grohl welcomed their first child into the world on January 14, 1969, they couldn’t have been happier. His parents divorced when he was six years old, and his mother eventually gained exclusive custody.

At the age of 12, he began taking guitar lessons, but he quickly became dissatisfied with his instructors. As a result of this, he trained himself to play the guitar and started jamming with his friends in bands. His introduction to punk rock came during a summer break when his cousin Tracy took him to a couple of shows in Illinois by local punk bands. The punk rock band Naked Raygun gave him his first taste of live music, and he saw them play for the first time in Chicago.

As a student at Thomas Jefferson High School in Virginia, he was elected as the school’s vice president. After he began doing drugs at Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, his mother decided to transfer him. Two years later, his family made the decision to switch schools, and he transferred to “Annandale High School” in Virginia.

He was a regular at “The 9.30 Club” when he was in his twenties. He attributes several positive changes to the concert he attended in the nation’s capital. The hardcore punk band “Scream” hired him when he was 17 to play drums for them, and he dropped out of high school to go on tour. Several of the band’s live albums, notably the platinum-selling “No More Censorship” and the critically acclaimed “Fumble,” feature his contributions.

After the dissolution of Scream in the late ’90s, he traveled to Seattle to audition for Nirvana, but he was rejected. Because of his talent and dedication, the band got signed to a major record label (‘DGC Records). Next, the band’s debut album, titled “Nevermind,” was recorded and released.

The drummer felt unfulfilled in his position and left the band to focus on his music. He released a cassette titled “Pocketwatch” in 1992 under the guise of Late! on the indie record label Simple Machines. The gig wasn’t all he had going for him, though; he also played drums on buzz Osborne’s most recent extended play.

He and fellow Nirvana member Krist Novoselic spent a lot of time at Seattle’s “Robert Lang Studios” demoing songs before the band’s 1994 European tour. The band’s final studio recording was a demo of “You know you’re right.”

After Kurt Cobain’s untimely death in April 1994, the band broke up. In October of the same year, he went to Seattle’s “Robert Lang Studio” and made a demo album of 15 songs on which he played every instrument.

In 1995, he put together a successful band with former Nirvana members, William Goldsmith, and “Sunny Day Real EstateNate “‘s Mendel. Rob Schnapf and Tom Rothrock helped him professionally clean his demos for the CD he created with the band. Upon the release of their debut album in July 1995, the band rebranded themselves as Foo Fighters.

In 1997, he composed the score for the film “Touch,” playing every instrument himself (save for the vocals). He ended up joining the Foo Fighters once the practice was completed.

Chris Shiflett, formerly of the touring band, took over for Smear, then Franz Stahl, formerly of “Scream,” replaced him. Taylor Hawkins, the band’s drummer, was one of the people we sought out. Moving his recording studio from Virginia to “Studio 606” in Los Angeles allowed him to focus on his fifth studio album, “In Your Honor,” which was released on June 14, 2005. Artists John Paul Jones, Josh Homme, and Norah Jones all contributed to the record.

June of 2008 saw him performing in Liverpool’s “Anfield Football Stadium” with Paul McCartney’s band. London’s year as the “European Capital of Culture” culminated with this concert.

Their seventh studio album, titled “Wasting Light,” came out on April 12, 2011. The album’s powerful rock sound and soaring choir parts were praised by music critics.  Both he and “Animal” had a “drum-off” in a 2015 episode of “The Muppets.”

Since Kurt Cobain’s untimely passing in 1994, Grohl has been filling in on drums for Nirvana. The breakup of Nirvana came too soon for him, so he formed his own band called Foo Fighters. He also played drums and sang backup vocals for the band Them Crooked Vultures, which he co-founded. Grohl plays a wide variety of instruments, including drums, bass, piano, and both acoustic and electric guitars. His band, Foo Fighters, has played at numerous charity concerts and festivals, including the “Citizen Festival” and the “Concert for Sandy Relief.”

In particular, Grohl is an advocate for LGBT rights in the workplace. In 2009, he was given a key to the city of Warren, Ohio by the mayor. David Grohl Alley is a roadway in Seattle that is covered with murals of the musician. Virginia and James Grohl’s first kid was born on January 14, 1969. During this time, they were New York City residents. His mother brought him up after his parents split up when he was six.

He first attempted to take guitar lessons when he was 12 years old, but he immediately realized that the instructors were not to his liking. So he bought a guitar, taught himself to play it, and soon he and his friends were performing in a rock band. During one of their summer vacations together, his cousin Tracy took him to see a number of live punk rock performances by local bands in Illinois. Naked Raygun, an original punk rock band from the area, played their first show on March 31.

In his first year at Thomas Jefferson High School in Virginia, he was chosen as his class’s vice president. From kindergarten on, he had been a student at Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, but his drug use eventually forced him to transfer. After his first two years of high school in Virginia, he transferred to “Annandale High School.”

He was a regular at “The 9.30 Club” in his late teens. Something that happened to him in the nation’s capital had a tremendous impact on his personal and professional life. He dropped out of high school at the age of seventeen after being hired as the drummer for the hardcore punk band “Scream.” He released several live albums with the band, including the multiplatinum “No More Censorship” and the “Fumble” albums, and went on a tonne of tours.

After his band “Scream” broke up in the late ’90s, he flew to Seattle to audition for “Nirvana,” but he was ultimately turned down. After being invited to join the band, he quickly inked a recording contract with the highly regarded DGC Records. Their debut album, titled “Nevermind,” was then recorded and released.

After becoming dissatisfied with his life as a struggling musician, the drummer decided to leave the band and concentrate on songwriting. His 1992 tape titled “Pocketwatch” was published independently on the Simple Machines label under the identity Late!. In addition to drumming for buzz Osborne that night, he also played on an EP of his own that the singer released in 2012.

Seattle’s Robert Lang Studios now bears his name in honor of the many demos he and Krist Novoselic of Nirvana recorded there before their 1994 European tour. The band’s final studio recording, and demo, was titled You Know You’re Right.

The ‘Nirvana era came to an end with Kurt Cobain’s death in April 1994. The 15 tracks on his demo were recorded in October at Seattle’s “Robert Lang Studio,” and he played all the instruments himself.

With the help of William Goldsmith and Nate Mendel from “Sunny Day Real Estate,” two ex-Nirvana members, his 1995 band became a huge success. For the CD he made with the band, Rob Schnapf and Tom Rothrock polished up his demos. A year after the release of their self-titled debut album, the band changed their name to Foo Fighters in honor of their breakthrough single.

All of the music for the film “Touch,” released in 1997, was written and performed by him, using only his own voice and instruments. When the recording session was over, he was officially hired on as a permanent member of the Foo Fighters’ rhythm section.

After Smear was replaced by Franz Stahl, another “Scream” member and fan favorite, Chris Shiflett, took over drum duties for the band. It was decided to bring in Taylor Hawkins as the band’s new drummer. His fifth studio album, titled In Your Honor, came out on June 14, 2005. After relocating from his home studio in Virginia to Studio 606 in Los Angeles, California, he made the album there. There were multiple people involved in the song’s creation, including John Paul Jones, Josh Homme, and Norah Jones.

In June of 2008, Paul McCartney was asked to join his band on stage at Liverpool’s “Anfield Football Stadium.” In London’s year as the “European Capital of Culture,” the concert was a highlight.
