Philip Paul “Phil” Burnell, better known online as DSPGaming is an Italian-American gaming YouTuber who is best known for his live commentary on his video game playthroughs as well as his controversial masturbation incident. He was born on April 6, 1982, making him 40 years old. Up until March 2017, Phil was bound by a contract with Machinima that had been signed. He publishes uncut, unedited playthroughs on his website. His vlog channel is THEKINGOFHATEVLOGS.

He used a channel called KOGaming for edited reviews and montages until it went mostly defunct in 2017 after a significant drop in views and profit. However, in July 2018, it became his temporary primary channel for testing whether ads would come on on newly published videos because he was having a problem with AdSense on his main channel, DSPGaming. [1] This issue would be resolved the following month in August 2018, and monetization would be restored on DSPGaming, allowing Phil to return and

Phil considers himself to be a “former professional fighting game player” due to the fact that he competed in a number of different competitive fighting game events all across the country in the late 1990s and into the 2000s. At particular, Phil’s performance in the 2005 EVO tournament earned him a fourth-place finish in Super Street Fighter II Turbo, making him the highest-ranked American player in that particular game (as the the top 3 were Japanese players). As a result of his actions during this time period, he earned the moniker “The King of Hate.”

Phil insists that the real reason for his nickname is because he is an outspoken person, having differing opinions that were radically different from mainstream ones, in which a lot of his opinions were subject to controversy, albeit using the infamy that many people induct upon him as a way of fueling himself. Many people believe that this is because he enjoys constantly hating on other people and/or video games, but Phil insists that the real reason for his nickname is because he is an out

Phil claims that he is “different from other YouTubers,” and he is okay with the fact that he is not as popular as other YouTubers in general. Phil is well-known for the significant amount of hate that is directed on him on YouTube; the “negativity movement” first started in the year 2012. In addition to this, it is common knowledge that he is not particularly skilled at playing some video games; this is something that he has stated about himself in the past. He considers his activities on YouTube to be a “business.” The Angry Video Game Nerd and The Nostalgia Critic serve as his primary sources of motivation whenever he creates new videos for the internet.

Phil claims that he doesn’t care what other YouTube creators have to say about him, yet there have been occasions when he has posted videos in which he responds to other YouTube creators who have criticised him. Phil further asserts that he has not evolved in any way since he first began uploading videos to YouTube and that he does not watch the stuff created by other YouTube creators. Phil gained notoriety in the early days of individuals playing video games and posting gameplay videos to YouTube for others to watch with his iconic playthroughs of games like Heavy Rain and Fallout 3. Things about him and his material that have become well-known (or notorious) include his chuckle, his sense of humour, and his style of commentary.

Phil has been suffering from a bad back ailment (a severely herniated disc) from sometime around the latter half of 2007 all the way up to the current day. He accomplishes this goal by limiting the amount of time he spends driving and by avoiding activities that require him to move large objects. Before 2004, Phil lived with his parents, and then he did so once again from 2007 to 2009. He moved into a condo in Connecticut in 2009, and he remained there until 2014 when he finally left. He relocated to Renton, Washington, with his girlfriend at the time, Leanna (also known as Panda Lee), in June of 2014; however, they ended their relationship in late April 2017 after just a few weeks of being engaged, and she left the apartment shortly afterwards.

After that, in the summer of 2017, Phil started a relationship with a lady called Kat, and on April 10, 2019, the two of them were married. From 2008 until 2010, Phil uploaded videos to YouTube for the sole purpose of having fun. At the time, he had no idea that YouTube would one day become his primary source of income. After losing his work at Helicopter Support, Inc. in Trumbull, Connecticut, in the latter half of 2010, he decided to devote all of his time to his YouTube channel. He subsequently relocated his material to blip.tv, however owing to a number of people filing complaints to the blip.tv staff citing Phil’s anti-Semitic comments during the Dead Space 2 demo, he was banned. However, his previous YouTube channel, “DarksydePhil,” lost its AdSense connection in late 2010. In 2011, he was given a contract with Machinima.

Between 2011 and 2012, Phil worked to thwart anti-gaming legislation such as the Stop Online Poker Act (SOPA). Late in 2012, he renegotiated the terms of his contract with Machinima. As a result, he started making less money than he had been earning when he first became paired with Machinima, and he altered the substance of his videos. Between the years 2008 until the beginning of 2013, he captured his gaming by aiming an HD camera at his television screen. Beginning in the spring of 2013, Phil began to directly film his gameplay. After that, in 2014, when Phil purchased a new personal computer to replace the one that had been constructed for him, he immediately began recording gaming at 1080p at 60 frames per second.

Phil’s views on YouTube as a whole have gone down over the years due to the criticism he receives and the fact that there are other YouTubers who edit gaming videos who are more popular and more skilled than he is. Most of Phil’s videos had very good views between 2008 and around 2012, but his views on individual videos had very good views during this time period. In 2012, Phil published a video in which he discussed those individuals who assert that he has “changed.” The atmosphere surrounding Phil became more negative in 2013, and it has not improved much since then. Phil’s goal for 2014 was to make more changes, and one of those changes was to move away from Connecticut. He accomplished this goal in June of that year.

After being warned by officials at Twitch in November 2014 to slow down his broadcasting pace while playing Assassin’s Creed: Unity, Phil decided to stop live-streaming on Twitch and instead began streaming his gameplay on YouTube. Phil’s Twitch broadcasts lasted for around a year and a half. At the beginning of 2015, he signed up for a Patreon account, which has since received a variety of responses from his audience members. On June 24, 2015, during a livestream of Batman: Arkham Knight, Phil was swatted; nonetheless, nobody was injured and nobody was arrested as a result of the incident. In addition, he was dosed on June 26. Phil’s opponents and haters targeted him on many occasions during the course of 2015, including giving him bogus copyright strikes on his two primary channels for fanart that he was supposed to have the permission to use.

Additionally, he was unable to broadcast live for certain amounts of time. Phil made the decision not to accept any more fanart in an effort to prevent more problems. In addition to this, he removed hundreds of videos that had material that was contributed by fans and also made his Nintendo DS playthroughs private. Not long after that, people’s opinions of him started to change. Phil was informed by an unknown source that YouTube had made a modification to its system, and that as a result, when the videos were deleted, his total views decreased, which resulted in a worse ranking in the search engine. This infuriated Phil to the point that he pondered filing a lawsuit against YouTube. Not long after that, his contract with Machinima was renegotiated (for the second time), which resulted in a reduction in the amount of money he was paid. In addition to that, he published an updated video on the topic.

Following that, Phil said that he will be launching a new channel in 2016 as part of a “three pronged approach” (games, vlogs, and edited material) to further his career. Early in 2016, he launched a new channel under the name KOGaming, on which he would do his game reviews and edited content. This was done so that individuals who do not subscribe to him out of concern that their email inboxes will be flooded or individuals who do not have enough time to watch his entire playthroughs could still enjoy his content.

On May 1, 2016, just before he was due to start streaming gameplay of the Nioh Alpha demo, Phil was caught masturbating live on a pre-stream that was being broadcast with facecam. He asserts that he was unaware that the camera was even operating at the time. However, many YouTubers now make jokes about him masturbating, and the criticism appears to have become worse since that pre-stream went live. He has acquired more views and followers ever since that pre-stream went live. Other prominent YouTube channels have covered this occurrence, such as ReviewTechUSA and DramaAlert.

In a pre-stream video the next day, Phil gave an open and honest response to the predicament. The event will be brought up in conversation from time to time by Phil. Over one million people have seen a video of Phil criticizing the computer game Homefront: Revolution, which has gone popular online and has been shared on 4chan. Additionally, he increased the number of subscribers to his KOGaming channel by the hundreds. On August 22, Phil shared a video with the title “addressing state.” Phil said in October 2016 that he was concerned about his future as a result of the low number of views that he received during the Hardcore Gaming Season. He went into additional detail about the circumstance in both The Week-In Preview as well as a dedicated video blog.

All of this can be traced back to the copyright assaults that took place in the summer of 2015, since Phil’s rank in the search engine hasn’t altered all that much since then. Low views remain to this day. In addition, Phil produced a video that serves as a follow-up to the special vlog. On November 16, 2016, Phil published a video providing a business update on the future of his live-streams. In the video, he said that he could accept fanart once again due to the more lenient copyright structure that YouTube has. Phil has also said that he would not be doing as much live-streaming going forward. When Phil’s instance of OBS broke on November 21, 2016, all of his configuration settings, which he had meticulously documented two years before, were lost. After putting OBS Studios through its paces, he came back to live streaming on Twitch on November 29, 2016, after an absence of two years, and streamed gameplay of Final Fantasy XV during that session.

Phil has made it known that he intends to make some adjustments for the year 2017. Even after releasing a new video providing an update on the company, he remained anxious about the future. In addition to that, he changed the resolution of his gaming videos from 1080p 60fps to 720p 60fps. On the KOGaming channel as well, Phil made the decision to allow altered movies from his audience, which he referred to as “community submissions.” In addition to that, he published the very first officially sanctioned “This Is How You Don’t Play” video on KOGaming; nevertheless, the video was subsequently removed. He has several videos similar to this one planned for distribution in the near future. Phil also altered his schedule, streaming an hour earlier each day, and decided to try and take some days off with his then-girlfriend Leanna. Leanna was one of Phil’s biggest fans and he wanted to spend more time with her.

In February of 2017, Phil had a problem with ad avenue, which resulted in him nearly wanting to launch a lawsuit against YouTube since he was losing money as a result of the problem. He may have been seen as “advertiser hostile,” and he discussed the problem with Machinima. They recommended that he post shorter movies, similar to how it was done in the past, but Phil wasn’t sure whether this was a good idea. Phil said on March 2, 2017, that after working in cooperation with Machinima for the previous six years, he has been terminated from his position there. Phil established a presence on Teespring after severing his links with the gaming website Machinima.

On the day the Nintendo Switch was released, Phil purchased one, but sadly, it was defective. In the end, he was able to get a second Nintendo Switch that was in working order. In the course of his discussions with various businesses about potential partnerships, he disclosed that his YouTube channels had been “messed with.” Phil allegedly proposed to Leanna in April of 2017, and she said yes. However, the couple ended their relationship in May of 2017, and Leanna moved out shortly afterwards. In November of 2017, he said unequivocally that he was involved with another woman.

Phil presented his new partner, Kat, to his friends and family in February of 2018. Because of an issue with AdSense, Phil’s primary gaming channel, DSPGaming, lost its ability to generate revenue in July of 2018. As a result, he was forced to move his playthroughs to another channel, KOGaming, where he had previously posted edited reviews and montages but which had largely gone dormant by 2017 as a result of low viewership and revenue. However, on August 7, 2018, monetization was reinstated on DSPGaming. Since then, Phil has relocated back to the channel and started his video game playthroughs on the channel. Phil has said that from this point forward, all of the channel’s future uploads would be in a format that is lengthier.

On April 10, 2019, Phil made the announcement that he and Kat had tied the knot formally. Phil’s account was terminated from the Twitch Partner Program on the 21st of April, 2021, while he was broadcasting a live game of Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony. Phil’s reaction upon learning that his collaboration with Twitch had been severed was one of astonishment and rage, and he immediately sought an explanation and justification from Twitch for the decision. Phil was forced to depend on contributions as a means of monetizing his Twitch material after he lost his partner status since there is no subscription option. As a consequence of this, he was widely mocked for “begging” for money after he lost partnership status. After that, Phil made a request to Twitch, asking them for an explanation as to why the abrupt termination of his relationship had taken place without any prior notice being given.

On May 18, 2021, two weeks after he had contacted Twitch about the abrupt termination of his partnership, Phil published a video on YouTube in which he revealed that he had received an email from the Twitch legal team, who explained his termination from the Twitch Partner Program. In the video, Phil also reveals that the email was sent to him on May 18, 2021. After conducting an investigation into “repeated instances of inappropriate conduct involving hateful slurs” in violation of Section 4.2.7 of the appropriate conduct agreement, Twitch reportedly decided to terminate the content licencing agreement that Phil had with the company. This was communicated to Phil via email. When Phil read the answer, and notably the one about the offensive terms, he became quite enraged.

Phil angrily denied using any derogatory terms in his live broadcasts, and he said that if he had, he would have been banned from Twitch in advance. Phil would go on to blame the trolls for clipping instances of his live streams where it sounded like he was saying a hateful slur and reporting the clips to Twitch as one of the main reasons why his partnership was terminated. Phil would blame the trolls for clipping instances of his live streams where it sounded like he was saying a hateful slur. In his rant, Phil accused Twitch of terminating his partnership for something that never occurred, alleging that they are punishing him legally for something that he legally didn’t do. He also claimed that Twitch was punishing him for something that he legally didn’t do.

Phil continued emphasizing the point that he wouldn’t be broadcasting on Twitch any longer if he had ever used derogatory language when interacting with other users on the platform in the past. Phil then presented Twitch with an ultimatum, demanding that the company either publicly apologise to him and restore his partnership, or else he will permanently stop streaming on Twitch and return to streaming on YouTube instead.
