Gayle King was born on December 28, 1954, in Chevy Chase, Maryland, to Scott and Peggy King, the first of their four daughters. Her father was an electrical engineer stationed in Ankara, Turkey, and she spent much of her childhood there before moving back to the United States with her family. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park.
