Joseph Maxwell Dempsie (born 22 June 1987) is an English actor who played Chris Miles in the E4 adolescent comedy-drama Skins (2007–2008) and Gendry Baratheon in Game of Thrones (2011–2013; 2017–2019).
Peak Practice (2000), Doctors (2001–2003), and Sweet Medicine (2003), as well as the films One for the Road and Heartlands, are among Dempsie’s previous acting credits (2003). Dempsie made an appearance on Friday Night Project with Geri Halliwell on April 18, 2008. He made an appearance with fellow Skins cast members at T4 on the Beach in Weston Super Mare on July 20, 2008. He starred opposite Michael Sheen, Jim Broadbent, Stephen Graham, and Timothy Spall in the 2009 film The Damned United as Duncan McKenzie. He had an appearance in The Moment of Truth, episode 10 of the BBC drama Merlin, in November 2008. He portrays Will, Merlin’s childhood friend from the village where they both grew up.
In the Radio 4 production Once Upon a Time, he played Steven, a gay teenager from Nottinghamshire. He has appeared in the first three, seventh, and eighth seasons of the show as of 2019. He also participated in the Channel 4 miniseries This Is England ’86 and its sequels, This Is England ’88 and This Is England ’90. He also starred in Harry & Paul on BBC Two, when he played a northerner who was given to Harry’s daughter as a gift by the character Harry was portraying. He recently played John in the BBC Three series The Fades.
