Jude Victor William Bellingham is an English professional footballer born on June 29, 2003. He now plays as a midfielder for Real Madrid, which competes in La Liga, and for the England national team. When Bellingham made his senior debut for Birmingham City in August 2019, at age 16 years and 38 days, he became the club’s youngest-ever first-team player. He also played frequently for Birmingham City throughout the 2019–20 season, making him the youngest player to ever play for the club’s first team.

In July 2020, he signed with Borussia Dortmund, and the next month, he became the club’s youngest player to score a goal. Throughout his first three seasons with the club, he amassed 132 total appearances, was a part of the squad that won the DFB-Pokal in 2020–21, and helped the club finish as the runner-up in the Bundesliga in 2022–23. In June of 2023, he signed a contract with Real Madrid.

He was a member of the England national team at the under-15, under-16, under-17, and under-21 levels. He earned his debut with the senior squad in November 2020 and went on to represent his nation at the UEFA Euro 2020 and the FIFA World Cup 2022. After playing for Stourbridge, Bellingham signed with Birmingham City when he was eight.

At 14, he started playing for their under-18 squad, and on October 15, 2018, at 15, he made his debut for their under-23 team when playing against Nottingham Forest’s U23s. After coming into the game after the first-hour mark, he scored the game’s lone goal in the 87th minute by “sliding in to force the ball over the goal line after pressure by Kyle McFarlane on the keeper diverted the ball into his path.”

By the beginning of March 2019, he had scored three goals in 10 games for the development team, had been included on FourFourTwo’s list of the “50 most exciting teenagers in English football,” and had been highlighted as a player that big European clubs were interested in. While still in school, he was progressively brought into the milieu of the first team. While still a schoolboy, he began practicing more often with the seniors, accompanied them to matches to watch, and was even allowed to travel as the “19th man” for a Championship match in March.

Bellingham has agreed to play with Birmingham City on a scholarship for the next two years, beginning in July 2019. He was a member of the first-team training camp in Portugal, participated in pre-season friendly, scored goals in those games, and was assigned the number 22 for the 2019–20 season. Bellingham became Birmingham City’s youngest player to ever appear in the first-team on August 6, when he began in the away match against Portsmouth in the first round of the EFL Cup.

He broke the record established by Trevor Francis in 1970 by 101 days, reaching the age of 16 years and 38 days. He was the Birmingham Mail’s player of the match after participating in all 80 minutes of the team’s loss by a score of 3-0. His first appearance in the Football League came 19 days later when he came in as a substitute in the second half of a 3–0 loss on the road against Swansea City. He debuted at home on the 31st of August against Stoke City.

After half an hour, Bellingham came in as a substitute for the injured Jefferson Montero, scoring the game-winning goal even though a fortunate deflection assisted it as Birmingham rallied from a 1-0 deficit to win 2–1 against Stoke. He became Birmingham’s youngest-ever goalscorer at the age of 16 years and 63 days. Two weeks later, he began the game played away at Charlton Athletic and scored the game’s lone goal off of a cutback that Kerim Mrabti made.

Bellingham remained a consistent game-day team member, sometimes as a substitute but mainly in the starting eleven positions. He was first introduced to the squad on the left wing, then moved to the center midfield position “where he could gain more confidence,” and then utilized “in a more advanced role” after the coaching staff was satisfied that he was capable of handling the increased level of responsibility. He won the Young Player of the Month award for the English Football League in November 2019.

Pep Clotet, the head coach of the team, has said that Bellingham “feels more comfortable in midfield and more comfortable when he can get closer to the opposition box.”In January 2020, he was said to be interested in moving to several large teams; on the transfer deadline day, it was claimed that Birmingham had rejected a £20 million offer from Manchester United. Bellingham remained a first-team regular for the remainder of the season, and by the time it was called off due to the COVID-19 epidemic, he had already made 32 appearances in the league.

Once the regular season began again behind closed doors, he continued to play a significant role in the squad. He was instrumental in setting up a late equalizer for Lukas Jutkiewicz against Charlton Athletic, which helped Birmingham’s league position become less complicated with two matches yet to be played. Although his last game was a loss, he ended the season with four goals for the seal of 44 games across all competitions, including 41 in the league. This helped Birmingham escape being relegated.

“To remember one of our own and to inspire others,” the club said when they announced the retirement of Bellingham’s number 22 jersey in recognition of all he had accomplished in such a short period while for the first team. At the EFL Awards, he was honored with the titles of EFL Young Player of the Season and Championship Apprentice of the Year. At the time, many people believed that Bellingham would leave Birmingham, and it was claimed that he and his father had visited several significant clubs, the most prominent of which were Manchester United and the Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund. Many people assumed that Bellingham would leave Birmingham.

Reportedly, Bellingham joined Dortmund after being swayed by the club’s history of giving first-team opportunities to young players, as shown by players such as Jadon Sancho. This prompted Bellingham to decide on Dortmund as his preferred destination. He took a flight to Germany for the physical examination, and the move will be finalized on July 20, 2020. After Birmingham’s last season game, Bellingham was scheduled to join the club.

Sky Sports said the unknown sum was an initial $25 million, making him the most expensive 17-year-old in the sport’s history. In addition, “several million more” might be added to the contract contingent on performance-related conditions. Bellingham debuted on September 14, 2020, at the age of 17 years and 77 days, when he started the opening match of the 2020–21 season in the DFB-Pokal against MSV Duisburg, who played in the third division.

After thirty minutes, he scored the second goal in a 5–0 triumph, becoming the club’s youngest goalscorer in the DFB-Pokal, surpassing Giovanni Reyna’s record by six days. He also became the club’s youngest scorer in any competitive match, beating Nuri Ahin’s record by five days. Both records were broken after he scored the second goal. After five days, he debuted in the league by assisting Reyna’s first goal in a 3–0 victory against Borussia Monchengladbach. For his efforts, he was awarded the title of Bundesliga Rookie of the Month for September.

When Bellingham met Lazio in the group stage on October 20, he became the youngest Englishman to start a Champions League match, beating the record previously held by Phil Foden, the previous holder of the title. Bellingham was 17 years and 113 days old at the time. Bellingham was a regular in all competitions throughout the first three months of the season, making six starts, seven substitute appearances in the Bundesliga, and four in the Champions League.

Due to a foot ailment, he didn’t play in the first two matches of 2021, but he made his comeback and is now a starter in an increasing number of games. He was involved in the play that led to Marco Reus’ goal in the first leg of the quarterfinal match against Manchester City in the Champions League. At the beginning of the second leg, he scored for Dortmund against Man City, but Dortmund could not hold on to their away-goal lead.

Meanwhile, Bellingham scored his first goal in the Bundesliga after Reyna’s knockdown to equalize the score with VfB Stuttgart early in the second half. Dortmund went on to win the game 3–2. Bellingham was one of the starting players for Dortmund in the 2021 DFB-Pokal final, which they won 4–1 against RB Leipzig. During the first half, he received a yellow card, and at halftime, with his side leading 3–0, he was substituted by Thorgan Hazard.

At the end of the season, he had 29 appearances in the Bundesliga, scoring one goal and 46 appearances, scoring four goals throughout all competitions. His teammates voted him Newcomer of the Season and awarded him the honor. In the 2021 Kopa Trophy competition, held to determine the best under-21 male player and judged by players who had previously won the Ballon d’Or, Bellingham finished in second place behind Pedri of Barcelona.

On October 22, 2022, in a match against Stuttgart, Bellingham made a significant contribution by scoring two notable goals. The first goal resulted from a rapid attack that he both started and finished, and the fourth goal was a skillfully curved shot taken after halftime. These actions were instrumental in ensuring Borussia Dortmund would maintain its position as one of the top four teams in the league.

On the last day of the Bundesliga season in 2023, Mainz 05 and Borussia Dortmund played to a 2–2 tie, which resulted in Borussia Dortmund dropping two points in the standings and allowing Bayern Munich to win the title. Because of his knee injury, Bellingham did not get any playing time as a replacement, and as he was leaving the field in tears, he was seen pulling a camera away from his face.

The news that Bellingham will be moving to Real Madrid from La Liga team Borussia Dortmund following the conclusion of the 2022–23 season was released by Borussia Dortmund on June 7th.Real Madrid announced theyingham to a deal for the next six years on June 14, 2023. The primary transfer price was stipulated in the agreement to be paid to Borussia Dortmund and was set at 103 million euros. Due to add-ons, which may amount to up to 30 percent of the predetermined transfer amount, this price has the potential to climb up to about 133.9 million euros.

Bellingham was presented with the number 5 at his formal introduction, for which he expressed his gratitude to Jes Vallejo, who was wearing it at the time, praising him as “a brilliant, brilliant guy.” Bellingham said that his choice of the number was partly a “homage” to Zinedine Zidane and that being granted it was an “honor.” Bellingham also acknowledged that being given the number was an “honor.”
