Michelle Khare is was born on August 10, 1992, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Her father is of Indian descent. Madeline is her only sibling. Garrett Kennell, a longtime creative partner, has proposed to her. She studied Digital Media and Technology at Dartmouth College. She interned at a number of high-profile companies during her studies, including Google, DreamWorks Animation, and Carousel Productions.
Khare began cycling for fun on the road and in the mountains. In 2014, she joined the Dartmouth Cycling Team and won the US U23 Criterium Nationals. For the 2014-2015 season, she joined the BMW Women’s Professional Team, where she trained and raced professionally.
She applied for a full-time content producer position at Buzzfeed after graduating in 2014. Her YouTube channel and early videos, she believes, helped her land the job at BuzzFeed Video. Because of the heavy restrictions on content creators on their own channels, while working at Buzzfeed due to potential conflicts of interest, her own channel remained dormant. She continued to cycle while working at Buzzfeed and incorporated it into her content, focusing on health and wellness. She was able to start participating in extreme physical challenges after she stopped cycling professionally.
She started working on her own channel again after leaving Buzzfeed in 2016. Challenge Accepted is her most famous film, in which she puts herself through gruelling preparation regimens for different careers. As of April 2020, her channel had 2 million viewers.
Late in 2019, Khare created a satirical take on the internet phenomena of doing “Rewinds” of the year that recapture the spirit of that particular year, which was started by YouTube. Khare, who goes by the moniker YouTube Rewinds, set herself the goal of doing a Broadway musical-style year-end recap in six weeks. The finished result was well received, leading her to try a similar creation in 2020, translating the year’s events into musical form once more. This video premiered on December 12, 2020, with music by Alex Winkler and lyrics by Steve Greist. This film, however, received mixed reviews, with some calling it “cringe.”
The depiction of YouTube celebrity Jenna Marbles, who left the website during the year after a string of scandals about her past comments, added to the negativity. Fans thought the gesture was mocking her, but the video was taken down a few hours later. The video has been widely mocked and ridiculed, especially the section depicting the famous online video game Among Us.
