Fredric Mark “Ric” Edelman is the founder of Edelman Financial Services (later, Edelman Financial Engines), as well as the author of several personal finance books and the host of The Ric Edelman Show, a weekly personal finance talk radio show. Ric Edelman’s public television show The Truth About Money with Ric Edelman was also hosted by him.
Edelman was born and raised in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. He met his wife Jean at Rowan University (formerly Glassboro State College), where he majored in communications. From 1980 until 1986, he worked as a reporter for McKnight Publications.
Edelman Financial Services, a financial counselling firm, was formed by Ric and Jean Edelman in 1986. In 2005, Edelman Financial Services sold a controlling share to Sanders Morris Harris Group. In 2018, the company combined with Financial Engines to become Edelman Financial Engines.
Ordinary People, Extraordinary Wealth, by Edelman, debuted at #1 in the New York Times Best Seller list in the paperback “Advice, How-to, and Miscellaneous” category in July 2001. Edelman was named the #1 Independent Financial Advisor in the United States by Barron’s in 2012. Edelman was inducted into Barron’s Financial Advisors Hall of Fame in 2019.
In conjunction with Inova Health System, Jean and Ric Edelman launched the Edelman Nursing Career Development Center in 2001, and donated $1 million to the programme in 2008.
In February 2020, Rowan University’s creative arts school was renamed the Ric Edelman College of Communications and Creative Arts, and he was appointed a “Distinguished Lecturer.”
