Robert Selden Duvall was born on January 5, 1931, in San Diego, California, United States of America. His parents were William Howard Duvall and Mildred Virginia. He was a son to them. Both his mother and father were performers; his father was an admiral in the United States Navy from Virginia, and his mother was a Broadway star. His family tree includes not just the French Huguenots, but also a long line of Anglo-Saxons, Germans, Swiss, Welsh, and Scots. When he was young, his parents instilled in him a Christian Science worldview.

He attended the “Severn School” in Severn, England, for both his primary and secondary school. He earned his diploma from “The Principia” in St. Louis, Missouri in 1953 after completing his undergraduate studies at “Principia College” in Illinois. From 1955 to 1957, he studied under Sanford Meisner at New York City’s ‘Neighborhood Playhouse School of Theater. The time period covered here is 1955–1957. There he met Gene Hackman and Dustin Hoffman, two actors who would become close companions.

He pursued acting classes and worked various jobs to support himself and his family. He decided to attend an acting academy. He was a truck driver, but he also worked as a clerk at the Manhattan post office and provided secretarial services for ‘Macy’s. But being a truck driver was his main source of income. American actor Robert Duvall initially gained widespread recognition for his role in the drama “Tender Mercies” (1983). The film’s success catapulted Duvall to fame. He received a “Academy Award” for his work here. The “National Medal of Arts,” one of several awards he has received throughout the course of his career, was handed to him in 2005.

Towards the end of the 1950s, he made his theatrical debut and thus began his acting career. After then, he continued to act in movies and TV shows. The Twilight Zone, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Godfather films, The Apostle, Apocalypse Now, and Lonesome Dove are just a few of the films and TV programs in which he has featured as a cameo actor over the course of his career. The list of honors he has received is long and impressive, and it includes, but is not limited to, the Academy Award, the Emmy, the Golden Globe, and the BAFTA.

Robert Duvall is well-known in the film industry not just as an actor, but also as an executive producer and director on a number of films in which he has acted. The public also recognizes him as a great benefactor. In 2001, Robert Duvall and his then-fiancée Luciana Pedraza established the “Robert Duvall Children’s Fund.” The couple later married in 2005. Luciana Pedraza, also an actress, is Robert Duvall’s wife. He also strongly backs the charitable organization Pro Mujer. To a more specialized audience, he debuted on stage in the early 1950s. The author also appeared in the live production of “Laughter in the Stars,” a stage rendition of “The Little Prince,” in which he portrayed the part of a pilot.

Conscription into the U.S. Army forced him to serve in the military between 1953 and 1954. While serving in the military, he took part in a community theater performance of the comedy Room Service. Discharged from the military, he began his theatrical career in 1955, appearing in a wide variety of roles. In addition to his part as Eddie Davis in Ronald Alexander’s “Time Out For Ginger,” he also played Hal Carter in William Inge’s “Picnic,” and Charles Wilder in John Willard’s. To put it simply, Ronald Alexander writes plays.

Fictional characters based on the authors include “The Cat and the Canary,” “Paris,” and “John the Witchboy” in Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible,” William Berney’s “Dark of the Moon,” and Howard Richardson’s “Dark of the Moon,” respectively. Several plays from 1956, such as “Dial M For Murder” by Frederick Knott, “Bus Stop” by Inge, and “I Am A Camera” by John van Druten, featured this emerging talent.

As a result of his acting abilities, he was cast in a wide variety of roles and became widely recognized. In 1957, he played Mr. Mayher in “Witness for the Prosecution” by Agatha Christie, “Hector” in “Thieves Carnival” by Jean Anouilh, and “Eddie Carbone” in “A View from the Bridge” by Arthur Miller. He has also performed at the Virginia Theatre and the Arena Theatre, in addition to the Gateway Theatre in both Virginia and Augusta, Georgia.

After proving himself in a variety of roles, he eventually rose to prominence as a theater actor.  All scripts were written by William Snyder. That’s the only time any of these shows were ever presented. When he first made his way onto the small screen in 1959, it was for an episode of Armstrong Circle Theater titled “The Jailbreak.” His debut on a TV show was a historic event.

His subsequent appearances on shows like “The Fugitive,” “Naked City,” “The Untouchables,” “Route 66,” “The Twilight Zone,” and “The Outer Limits” cemented his status as a popular TV personality. The premiere of “To Kill a Mockingbird” in 1962 coincided with a meteoric rise in his career trajectory, and the picture marked his first appearance on the silver screen. He plays the maniacal Atticus Finch in the cinematic adaptation of Harper Lee’s novel. Throughout the 1960s decade, he played a variety of little and large supporting roles in a wide variety of films.

On Broadway, he made his debut in the role of “Harry Roat, Jr.” in Frederick Knott’s 1966 drama Wait Until Dark. After that, he played the role of Walter Cole in David Mamet’s play American Buffalo. It was performed after his previous play. Almost immediately after that, he became a major star in Hollywood’s movie business. Despite his extensive filmography, he didn’t achieve widespread recognition until “The Godfather” (in which he played the role of “Tom Hagen”) was released in 1972. He had not been the focus of the film business until this point.

He returned to the role of Hagen in the film’s 1974 sequel, which shared the same name. Subsequently, he was cast in a pivotal supporting role in the film The Eagle Has Landed, which was released two years after it had been filmed. It was for his supporting role as Lt. Colonel in “Apocalypse Now” that he won the “Golden Globe” that year for best performance by an actor in a supporting role. Everyone said that his portrayal of this character was the best ever. Throughout the decade, he also oversaw the filming of “Network,” “The Great Santini,” and “The Betsy,” to mention a few.

He had a breakout decade in the 1980s, winning the “Academy Award” for “Best Actor” for his role in the film “Tender Mercies.” His other albums from this decade include The Natural and Colors. The “Academy Award” for “Best Actor” was also bestowed to him. In addition, he had a role in the TV miniseries Lonesome Dove. During the 1990s, Robert was in as many as 21 movies, with four of those movies featuring prominently each year. All of his movies did well at the box office, but “The Apostle,” which was nominated for an Oscar, and “A Civil Action,” which was also nominated, were his most profitable efforts. Oscar consideration was given to both of his flicks.

During the ceremony, he received the honor. Barbara Benjamin (1964–1975), Gail Youngs (1982–1986), Sharon Brophy (1991–1996), and Luciana Pedraza (1996–present) were his wives throughout his lifetime (1996–1996). In general, these unions lasted for around a decade (2005). Not many people know that he has his own Tango Studio in both Argentina and the United States, despite the fact that he is a skilled Argentine Tango dancer. Regardless, he is a sought-after teacher in both countries.

The “Robert Duvall Children’s Fund,” an organization he and Pedraza co-founded, takes up much of his time outside of his work and other responsibilities. The nonprofit’s mission includes modernizing the housing, educational, and healthcare facilities in Northern Argentina for the benefit of local residents. In addition to this, he is a staunch backer of the Latin American charity “Pro Mujer,” whose mission is to help economically underprivileged women. He believes in the cause quite strongly.

He has long been a vocal advocate for protecting historic sites, and he has long opposed plans to build a Walmart in “Wilderness Battlefield National Park” under the pretense of protecting the park’s natural resources.

This famous American actor, who won an Oscar for his role in “The Apostle,” once lived alongside Gene Hackman and Dustin Hoffman in their early careers. This actor made his or her name in “The Apostle.”
