Rooney Mara was born on 17 April 1985 in Bedford, New York, to Patricia Rooney Mara. Her father, Timothy Christopher Mara, is now VP of the ‘New York Giants’ player assessment, a professional soccer team founded by his grandfather, Tim Mara.
Her mom, Kathleen McNulty (born Rooney), is a real estate part-time agent. Her family is the owner of Pittsburgh Steelers, a well-known professional football team in the National Football League (NFL).
Patricia is the third of her parents’ four children. She has Daniel, a brother of old age, and Kate, an older sister, a successful actor. She’s got a younger brother named Conor, too.
She was born into a famous family and had a privileged but normal childhood. She said in an interview that they lived in a big house, but had no butler or sister. She also said in another interview that she used babysitting for an aunt, earning a ‘Cartier’ bracelet.
She was very close to her mother as a child. Her mother asked her how she was going to be dressed for Halloween when she was 3 years old. She chose ‘Klara,’ the paralysed girl from ‘Heidi,’ to be dressed.
Her mom also made old films like “Gone with the wind,” “Rebecca,” and “Bringing Baby.” Soon she developed a strong interest in acting and also took classes in acting.
She went to watch soccer games, too. As a child, she never understood her family’s special. However, because of her lines, her fellow students treated her differently and this puzzled her greatly and made her reclusive and anxious.
She attended high school in ‘Fox Lane.’ On the first day of school she was so anxious that she had to return home midway.
She had never been comfortable in school and spent a lot of time alone, refusing to take part in any sports or drama. She decided to try her luck in acting in ninth grade, which was then auditioned for the school playing ‘Romeo and Juliet.’
She performed her monologue at the audition and then dropped out of the room. One of the judges was his English teacher, Mr. Shanley. He ran across the hall after her and exclaimed, “I didn’t know that you really could talk! That was awesome!” She finally won the ‘Juliet’ role.
In early 2003, Patricia graduated from ‘Fox Lane High School’ then attended Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia in South America in a four-month foreign study programme. She joined George Washington University on her return, where she studied for one year.
In 2004, she studied psychology, international social policy and nonprofits at the ‘Gallatin School of Individualized Studies’ in the ‘New York University.’ At the same time, she began appearing for auditions at the age of 19 and started to perform in some student films. She graduated in 2010. In 2005, Patricia started her acting career in “Urban Legends: Bloody Mary,” a movie where she starring Kate Mara as ‘Samantha “Sam” Owens.’ Mara played a part of a girl’s classroom as a “extra” in the film.

In 2009, she performed in three major films, namely ‘Tara’ and ‘Youth in Revolt,’ where she appeinted as ‘Wendy Webber;’ ‘Friends (with benefit),’ where she appears as ‘Tara.’
That same year, she was her first leading role, ‘Fernanda (Fernanda),’ in ‘Tanner Hall.’ The film premiered in September 2009 at the ‘Toronto Film Festival.’ The film was also honoured at the ‘Hamptons International Film Festival’ and was awarded the ‘Grand Jury Award’ at the ‘Gen Art Film Festival.’
