Travis, who is most known for co-starring in the TV series “The Beast” with the late Patrick Swayze, had to battle for years before his hard work paid off. In the History Channel series “Vikings,” he played Ragnar Lothbrok, and in the film “Warcraft,” he played Anduin Lothar. Travis also portrayed the major character of John Clayton in Laura Ziskin’s series “Tarzan.” He received critical acclaim for his supporting part as Johnny Doran alongside Matthew McConaughey in the Anchor Bay Entertainment film “Surfer, Dude,” as well as his appearance in the indie feature film “The Baytown Outlaws.”
Travis Fimmel was born in the Australian town of Echuca on July 15, 1979. In Lockington, he grew up on a dairy farm. With the goal of becoming a professional football player, he moved to Melbourne at the age of 17 to play for the AFL’s St Kilda Football Club. While there, he studied project management at RMIT University. However, he was wounded not long after, and his aspirations of pursuing a football career were dashed due to a fractured leg. He then left RMIT University to go across the world.
He soon relocated to the United States to follow his dream. Travis stepped into the LA Models office in 2002, broke and barefooted, and was immediately signed. He subsequently landed a six-figure deal to model for Calvin Klein exclusively for a year. He was the face of CK’s Crave men’s fragrance ad as well as the brand’s well-known underwear.
He decided to pursue acting after becoming a well-known model. He studied acting under Ivana Chubbuck and got the titular role in Warner Bros.’ 2003 TV series “Tarzan,” in which he performed the majority of the stunts himself. In the following years, he will play a wide range of characters on both small and big screens. In 2005, he co-starred with Lauren Holly in the film “Rocky Point,” and in 2006, he co-starred with Madeleine Stowe in the Fox film “Southern Comfort.”
In 2010, he played Helweg, a cheeky and boorish jail warden, opposite Academy Award winner Adrien Brody and Forest Whitaker in the film “The Experiment.” The movie is based on a true story involving Stanford University volunteers.
On television, he rose to prominence after starring alongside Patrick Swayze in A&E’s series “The Beast,” in which he played rookie undercover FBI agent Ellis Dove. Due to Swayze’s death from pancreatic cancer, the series came to a stop after 13 episodes.
He also played fugitive Mason Boyle in two episodes of Jerry Bruckheimer’s Emmy Award-winning action-adventure series “Chase” on NBC. He portrayed a dangerous man on the run who is apprehended by US marshals who subsequently try to enlist his assistance in apprehending a serial killer.
In 2011, he starred alongside Richard Dreyfuss and Jessica Lange in the film “The Big Valley.” In the same year, he participated in FX’s TV pilot “Outlaw Country.”
In 2012, he starred in the film ‘Harodim,’ which was initially titled ‘The Lazarus Protocol.’ He co-starred with Peter Fonda as a former CIA officer on the hunt for the world’s most wanted terrorist, demonstrating his penchant for challenging roles.
In 2013, he co-starred in the comedy film “The Baytown Outlaws” alongside Billy Bob Thornton and Eva Longoria.
In 2012, he was cast in BlackBoxTV’s “Reawakening,” with Calvin Klein model-turned-actor Dylan Bruno. He co-starred with Jessalyn Gilsig, Katheryn Winnick, and Gabriel Byrne in the television series “Vikings” as the lead role. Ragnar Lothbrok, the famous Viking commander, was played by him.
In 2016, he starred in the live-action rendition of the computer game of the same name, titled “Warcraft.” In 2017, he starred in Andrew Haigh’s British-American drama film “Lean on Pete,” which was based on Willy Vlautin’s novel of the same name.
‘Finding Steve McQueen,’ an anticipated American heist thriller film directed by Mark Steven Johnson and written by Keith Sharon and Ken Hixon, is one of his forthcoming projects.
