Evan Thomas Spiegel (born June 4, 1990) is the co-founder and CEO of Snap Inc., an American social media startup that he co-founded (as Snapchat Inc.) with Bobby Murphy In the year 2015, Spiegel became the world’s youngest billionaire.
Spiegel presented an app with ephemeral messaging as a product design class project in April 2011, a notion that was mocked by his peers. Ultimately that year, Spiegel collaborated with Stanford classmates Bobby Murphy and Reggie Brown to establish “Picaboo,” a prototype of the concept that was later termed Snapchat. The app’s popularity soared, and Evan dropped out of Stanford in 2012 to focus on Snapchat just as he was about to finish his degree. Spiegel’s Snapchat app had 1 million daily active users by the end of 2012.
In February 2017, Spiegel and Murphy announced their intention to gift up to 13,000,000 shares of Class A common stock to an arts, education, or youth non-profit over the following 15–20 years. They established the Snap Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to assisting people in these situations. Their purpose is to “provide routes to the creative economy for underserved children in Los Angeles,” and they recently contributed $3 million to COVID-19 victims. Murphy and Evan Spiegel will own approximately “70 percent of the voting power” in Snap Inc.
In the year 2015, Spiegel started dating Miranda Kerr, an Australian model. On July 20, 2016, they exchanged rings. On May 27, 2017 in Los Angeles, they married in a private ceremony. Spiegel bought a 7,164-square-foot, $12-million house from Harrison Ford just a month before his engagement to Kerr. Kerr and Spiegel had their first child in November 2017. Hart Kerr Spiegel, named after Spiegel’s grandfather, was born on May 7, 2018. Kerr’s third child is due in March 2019. Kerr’s son, Myles Spiegel, was born in October 2019.
