Bear Grylls, a well-known adventurer, traveler, and explorer, gained worldwide fame for his hit reality show, ‘Man vs. Wild’. Bear Grylls was born on 7 June 1974 in London, England, to Sir Michael Grylls and Lady Sarah ‘Sally’ Grylls. His elder sister Lara Fawcett gave him his nickname ‘Bear’ when he was just one week old. He was raised in Donaghadee, Northern Ireland, and when he was four years old, his family moved to Bembridge village on the Isle of Wight.

As a child, Bear was trained by his father to climb and sail. He became a cub scout at the age of eight and was educated at Ludgrove School and Eton College. He initiated the foundation of a climbing club at Eton College and also earned a black belt in Shotokan karate. He was trained to skydive in his youth.

After joining the Territorial Army, Bear spent three years in the army’s special air service unit. He was an instructor in combat survival and learned demolitions, parachuting, unarmed fighting, evasion, and trauma drug. However, during this period, he encountered a spinal injury accident, and to recuperate from the injury, he required medicine and rehabilitation.

In 1997, he climbed Mount Ama Dablam and became the youngest British person to achieve this accomplishment. He then walked the Sikkim and the western Bengal Himalayan mountains and climbed Everest on 16 May 1998, entering his name in the Guinness Book of Records.

In 2000, Bear undertook a fundraising excursion for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and led a Jet-Skis team to sail around the UK. The journey took 30 days to accomplish, and it was a pioneering initiative. That same year, he published his debut book ‘The Kid Who Climbed Everest,’ which described his journey to the mountain peak. In 2003, he went on a journey to the Arctic Ocean in the North Atlantic with a team of five members. They sailed to Labrador, Greenland, Iceland, and eventually Scotland from Nova Scotia.

In 2005, Bear created a new record by hosting the highest formal open-air dinner party.
