Usain Bolt, OJ, CD (born August 21, 1986) is a retired Jamaican sprinter widely regarded as the best of all time. In the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay, he has world records.
Bolt is the only sprinter to win the Olympic 100 m and 200 m titles three times in a row (2008, 2012 and 2016). In addition, he won two gold medals in the 4 x 100 relay. He became famous around the world by winning two world record sprints in world record timings at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, making him the first individual to hold both marks since fully automatic timing became obligatory.
Bolt is the first athlete to win four World Championship medals in the 200 metres, and he has three World Championship titles in the 100 metres.
He has assisted Jamaica in setting three world records in the 4 x 100 metre relay, the most recent of which was established in 2012 in 36.84 seconds. Bolt’s most successful event is the 200 metres, which he has won three Olympic medals and four World titles in. He had previously won multiple 200 m medals (including silver at the 2007 World Championships) and held the world under-20 and under-18 records for the event until Erriyon Knighton surpassed him in 2021.
Bolt went to Sherwood Content Seventh-day Adventist Church in Trelawny, Jamaica, with his mother when he was a child. In accordance with Adventist beliefs, his mother did not feed him pork.
Bolt set a personal best time of 48.28 seconds in the 400 metres for Jamaica at his first Caribbean regional tournament, capturing a silver medal in the 2001 CARIFTA Games. Bolt ran in 21.81 seconds in the 200 m to take silver.
At the 2001 IAAF World Youth Championships in Debrecen, Hungary, he made his debut appearance on a global scale. He did not qualify for the finals in the 200 m race, but he established a new personal best of 21.73 seconds. Bolt, on the other hand, still didn’t take himself or athletics seriously, and he pushed his mischief to new heights by hiding in the back of a vehicle while practising for the CARIFTA Trials 200 m finals. For his practical joke, he was arrested by the police, and the local community blamed coach McNeil. The issue calmed, and both McNeil and Bolt competed in the CARIFTA Games, where Bolt set championship records in the 200 and 400 metres, respectively, with timings of 21.12 and 47.33 seconds. At the Central American and Caribbean Junior Championships, he broke records with times of 20.61 seconds and 47.12 seconds.
Bolt added his third gold medal to his collection two days later when he ran as the third leg in the Jamaican 4x100m relay team. Bolt and teammates Nesta Carter, Michael Frater, and Asafa Powell set a new world and Olympic record with a time of 37.10 seconds, shattering the previous mark by three-tenths of a second. Powell, who led the team to victory, bemoaned the loss of his 100m world record to Bolt, but expressed no ill will toward his Jamaican adversary, saying he was honoured to assist him in setting his third world record. When a blood sample collected from Carter after the race was retested and proved positive for a banned drug, the Jamaican relay teammates were deprived of their gold medals in January 2017. Bolt contributed $50,000 to the children of China’s Sichuan province in the aftermath of his triumphs to aid those affected by the 2008 Sichuan earthquake.
