Controversies | • During the 1980s and 1990s, Altaf and his party were accused of using violent tactics to obtain political power. Pakistan suffered great loss, and Altaf was blamed for the violence. • In 2013, the Pakistan Government blamed him for staging a bloody mass riot in Karachi. He was also accused of being a terrorist and a fanatic. • On 11 June 2019, he was arrested in London for making hate speeches against a Pakistani individual. • On 17 September 2000, he said that by rejecting the "grouping formulae and greater autonomy for Muslim-majority Indian provinces", Jawaharlal Nehru and Abul Kalam Azad forced Muhammad Ali Jinnah to demand a separate Pakistan, even when the founder of Pakistan was ready to accept a united India.
