Berry Gordy was born on November 28, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan, and he is a songwriter and record label executive. He was born to Berta and Berry Gordy Sr. He started out at Northeastern High School, but he left midway through his junior year to pursue on his featherweight boxing career. There were just fifteen fights in his boxing career, but he won twelve of them.
