There are echoes of outlaw country and Southern rock in Cody Jinks’ music. The Texas native’s recent success led to a recording contract with Rounder Records, and he released his label debut, Lifers, in 2018. He is recognized for his soft baritone and lonely, dark-hued country ballads.

After the Fire and The Wanting were published the next year on his own indie label, while Mercy followed in 2021. Jinks spent the first years of his career as the lead singer of the Fort Worth-based thrash metal band Unchecked Aggression. He grew up in Haltom City. Jinks is a lifelong resident of Haltom City who, in the late aughts, reinvented himself as a honky tonk balladeer by returning to his country music origins. Jinks is a prolific indie artist who released his debut album, Less Wise, in 2010. He and his support band, the Tone Deaf Hippies, have done a lot of touring.

His first taste of mainstream success came with the publication of his 2015 album Adobe Sessions, named after the Adobe Room at the Sonic Ranch studio in Tornillo, Texas, where the album was produced. The album did well enough that it peaked at number two on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart, bringing Jinks greater attention from the mainstream music industry. He went back to Sonic Ranch to record his follow-up album, which he eventually self-released under the title I’m Not the Devil. The album debuted at #4 on the Billboard Country Albums chart and quickly rose to the top spot upon its initial release in August of 2016. A gap appeared in Jinks’ catalog until 2017’s re-release of Less Wise (Modified), a remixed and remastered version of his debut album from 2010.

In the spring of 2018, it was announced that he had signed a contract with Rounder Records, and that his entire back catalog would be reissued by Thirty Tigers. The arrival of spring is to thank for this bit of information. In June of that year, Jinks released their debut album, Lifers, on Rounder Records. “Must Be the Whiskey” pushed the record to success. On the Billboard 200, Lifers debuted at number eleven, while on the country charts, they went straight to number two. Jinks returned in 2019 with the release of two albums on his own record label, Cody Jinks Music: After the Fire and The Wanting. In 2021, he published an acoustic-only rendition of his original Adobe Sessions CD.

Just wait till the official follow-up to After the Fire and The Wanting, titled Mercy, is out. In November of 2021, Jinks’ metal band Caned by Nod issued an album called None the Wiser, which coincided with the release of Mercy. A musician and songwriter, ody Jinks plays and composes songs in the style of outlaw country. His 2016 album, I’m Not the Devil, peaked at #4 on the Billboard Country Albums chart, while his 2018 album, Lifers, peaked at #2. Jinks attended high school in his hometown of Haltom City, a suburb of Fort Worth. At age 16, his father taught him a few country guitar riffs, but he quickly formed a heavy metal band.

Jinks cut his teeth in the music industry as the lead vocalist for the Fort Worth thrash metal band Unchecked Aggression (formerly Silas), which existed from 1998 to 2003. During those years, from 1998 to 2003, Jinks was a member of the band. Moreover, he was the band’s primary guitarist. Ben Hefley (guitar), Anthony Walker (drums), and Gary Burcham (bass; left in 2000; replaced by Chris Lewis) were the other members of the band. Two bands that had an effect on them were Metallica and Panter.

The Massacre Begins is the title of an album released in 2002. Their discography includes songs with titles like “Hell Razor” and “Kill Me Again.” However, the band was unable to work together after returning from a trip to Los Angeles, and Jinks subsequently chose to take a yearlong off from music. He started singing country songs in 2005 because that’s what he heard most often at home.

The Tone Deaf Hippies are the band that backs up Jinks. His first album, a country record, was released in 2008. A record titled 30 was released to the public in 2012. With the release of his 2013 EP Blackshear, he began to forge his own unique musical identity. When Adobe held its 2015 Sessions The adobe chamber at Sonic Ranch outside Tornillo, Texas, was where the album’s recordings took place, inspiring the album’s title. It was released in January 2015 and reached the top two spots on Billboard’s Heatseekers South Central list and the top eight spots on Billboard’s Heatseekers Mountain list for its respective regions. While on tour in 2015 in support of Adobe Sessions, Jinks performed as Sturgill Simpson’s opening act.

I Am Not the Devil (2016) It wasn’t until August 12th, 2016 that I’m Not the Devil was released to the public. The album was recorded at a studio named Sonic Ranch in the Texas town of Tornillo.  The album was nearly finished and a title had been settled upon when it was renamed after the song that they wrote together. Ward Davis contributed to the composition of the song’s title melody.  In support of their album I’m Not the Devil, Jinks took the road in August, September, and October as a co-headliner with Whitey Morgan and the 78’s. The album gained notoriety after being named by Rolling Stone as one of the year’s best country offerings.

Jinks covered Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here” in January of 2017 and it became an instant hit. In addition, he republished his album from 2010 under the name Less Wise as a revamped and updated edition named Less Wise Modified 2017 with the inclusion of three new tracks. This year is for permanent residents. Lifers, Jinks’ album on the Rounder Records label, was released on July 27, 2018. The album’s first single, “Must Be the Whiskey,” came out on June 15, 2018; it was the album’s lead single. Jinks released their new album, titled “After the Fire and the Wanting Comes” on October 11, 2019.

Because his 2018 album Lifers was produced and released independently by his own label, Late August Records, he has officially parted ways with Rounder Records. Two of the album’s tracks, “Ain’t a Train” and “Think As You Think,” were previously released as singles. Also, Jinks was a big proponent of the song “William and Wanda,” which was inspired by and named after Jinks’s late grandparents.

Album debuted at #2 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart for the week ending October 26, 2019. Jinks dropped their sophomore effort, The Wanting, on October 18, 2019 — exactly one week after the debut album.  Two songs, “Which One I Feed” and “Same Kind of Crazy as Me,” came before it.

As of October 24, 2019, both albums were atop the Top Albums ranking on iTunes and Apple Music. In an unexpected turn of events, Cody became the lead singer for a Fort Worth thrash metal band named Unchecked Aggression. This career path ended up being one he pursued throughout his entire life. The band’s first alias, Silas, saw them through their formative years. Cody was the lead singer and guitarist for the band. Gary Burkham, the band’s bassist until his departure in 2000, was replaced by Chris Lewis. Chris Lewis doubled as the group’s primary guitarist. Former band members Ben Heffley (guitar) and Anthony Walker (drums) were integral to the group’s sound.

They attribute their involvement with the sport to bands like Metallica and Pantera. They have recorded a number of tracks, including: According to information obtained by thrillng.com, Jinks chose to take a break from music after the band’s luck turned for the worse in Los Angeles and the band’s luck turned for worse overall. His professional music career began in 2005, and he soon mastered the country music genre. In 2008, he first released country CDs, to the delight of a group of musically tone-deaf hippies. Blackshear, the EP he released in 2013, was an attempt to create his own sound.

His new album, Adobe Session, was recorded in the sonic ranch outside of Tornillo, Texas. It was initially named after the cramped adobe room that housed the recording session. Released in January 2015, its meteoric rise to fame was swift. Getting as high as number two on Heatseekers South and number eight on Heatseekers Mountain on the regional Heatseekers list of billboards is a good showing. He proposed the concept of touring in support of Adobe sessions, and in 2015, Sturgill Simpson’s opening set followed a similar structure.
