Afrojack, a.k.a. Nick van de Wall, is one of the most internationally successful DJs and producers to come from the Dutch dance music industry. In 2006, he travels to Crete (Greece), where he spends five months deejaying in every club that will accept him, honing his technique and accumulating his first ‘flight hours’. Additionally, it was in Crete that he scored his first little hit. He was fired up upon his return to the Netherlands and began making more and more tracks, desperate to have his productions released on a label. Digidance decides to give it a chance with a little help from Sidney Samson and Laidback Luke, and it works; ‘Afrojack – In Your Face’ reached #60 in the Dutch Top 100 and #3 in the Dutch dance Top 30. Not bad for an 18-year-first old’s release.
Nick begins playing under the name Afrojack in 2007, determined to reach the top as a DJ and producer. After releasing track after track and remix after remix, he even establishes his own label, ‘Wall Recordings.’ Outside of his studio, Afrojack is rarely seen. When he is not deejaying, he is producing, which is paying off. International DJs such as Josh Wink, Dave Clarke, Laidback Luke, Fedde Le Grand, Marco V, and Benny Rodrigues begin to support his music.
In 2008, he releases ‘Math’ and ‘Do My Dance,’ which are immediately picked up by every major label in the business. Afrojack teams up with the Partysquad to add vocals to “Do My Dance,” and a few weeks later, the collaborative mix ‘Drop Down (Do My Dance)’ is formed. This song debuts in the Dutch top 20 and is named “Tune of the Week” by the country’s largest radio stations. Afrojack makes his festival debut at a number of well-known events, including Mystery Land, Tomorrowland (Belgium), Extrema Outdoor, and Sensation.
In 2009, the world began to hear more from Afrojack, and it didn’t take long for David Guetta to recognize his brilliance.
