American rhythm-and-blues singer whose neo-soul voice drew similarities to jazz icon Billie Holiday was born in Dallas, Texas, on February 26, 1971, as Erica Wright under the stage name Erykah Badu.

Badu was the middle kid in a family of three. After graduating from Dallas High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, she pursued a degree in dance and theatre at Grambling State University in Louisiana, despite having no professional training in music. Erykah Free was created in 1993 by her cousin and a waitress, while she also worked as a drama teacher and dropped out of Grambling to pursue a singing career.

When Badu opened for D’Angelo in 1995, Kedar Massenburg, who had recently started his own record company, heard them. As soon as Massenburg approached Badu about signing a solo deal, she dissolved Erykah Free, believing that she would receive better personal attention as a single artist on a smaller company.

Badu’s debut single, “On & On,” was released in January 1997 and instantly became a hit. Her debut album, Baduizm, was released the following month, with all but one of the tracks written by her. Badu’s bluesy voice and downtempo hip-hop sounds helped it reach No. 2 on the Billboard album list. The best R&B album went to Baduizm, while the best female R&B vocal performance went to “On & On.”

To achieve her own style, she looked to the greats of African American popular music of the past, like Miles Davis, Al Jarreau, and Chaka Khan as well as Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye for inspiration.  Both albums sold over three million copies and were awarded the platinum certification.

Two NAACP Image Awards, four Soul Train Awards, an American Music Award, and two Grammy Awards were among the honors she received that year. “Bag Lady,” the lead single from her second studio album Mama’s Gun (2000), was a commercial success, and she went on to release her third studio album, Worldwide Underground, in 2003, which was promoted as an EP (extended play) despite its 50-minute running time.

New Amerykah, Part One: 4th World War, her bass-heavy album from 2008, combined funk with Erykah Badu’s political lyrics to become a critical success. When New Amerykah, Part Two: Return of the Ankh was released in 2010, it was met with a frenzy of media attention. Badu strolled across Dealey Plaza in downtown Dallas, the site of the death of U.S. President John F. Kennedy, completely naked in the video for the album’s controversial first track, “Window Seat.” Badu continued to perform over the following few years, but her recording career was limited to guest appearances on other artists’ tracks. On her mixtape But You Can’t Use My Phone from 2015, she modified a number of songs about mobile phones and communication. Generally speaking, people were pleased with it.

Grammy Awards are given out by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (NARAS; commonly known as the Recording Academy). Over 25 categories are judged for the Grammys, encompassing everything from pop to rock to rap to R&B to the country to reggae to classical to gospel to jazz to postproduction work like record packaging and liner notes. More than 75 awards are given out in all, including four general ones for best record, best album, best song, and best new artist. The winners are presented with a golden gramophone figurine.

This year’s Grammys are open to recordings and music videos that were released between October 1 and midnight on September 30 of the preceding year, according to NARAS rules. Record companies and academy members both submit entries, which are then evaluated to determine eligibility and category placement. In a series of ballots, NARAS voting members choose five nominees for each award and then the winner; voters only vote in their own fields of expertise.

The inaugural Grammys were given out in 1959 in Los Angeles by the NARAS organization, with a total of 28 awards given out. Wins went to Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and the Kingston Trio, among others. As new musical subgenres have evolved, the number of Grammy Awards has risen in lockstep with them. The academy first recognized rock in 1980 and wrap in 1989 as distinct genres.

The Grammy category system was reformed in 2011 by NARAS, and the overall number of awards was lowered from 109 to 78. A new category called “regional roots music” was created to honor Hawaiian, Native American, and Zydeco music, while instrumental categories were eliminated. After a few further tweaks, the number of prizes has settled at 84 by 2017.

As the popularity of Latin music grew, NARAS created LARAS in 1997 as a response. It does not matter where a recording is released as long as it was recorded between July 1 and June 30 of the award year in Spanish or Portuguese to be eligible for a Latin Grammy. The first Latin Grammys were presented in Los Angeles in 2000, and Carlos Santana and Shakira were among the honorees.

When an artist wins a Grammy award of any type, record sales increase, and awareness increases. S. Georg Solti (32) holds the record for the most Grammys earned by a single artist. Quincy Jones, Alison Krauss, and Stevie Wonder round out the top 10.

Texas is a city-state chartered by the federal government of the United States.  After Alaska, Texas is the largest state by land area in the United States. It may be found in the country’s south-central region, just south of the border with Mexico. The state is around 1,000 miles (1,600 km) long from north to south and about the same distance from east to west.

It is responsible for drawing a large number of water’s boundaries. When it comes to Texas-northern Oklahoma’s border, Red River meanders for about two-thirds of the length, while the Panhandle extends northward, forming a parallel to it in western Oklahoma. Arkansas and Louisiana are separated by the Sabine River throughout the majority of its course. The Rio Grande, which cuts a shallow canal through its shores in the southeast to separate Texas and Mexico. New Mexico is a state in the western United States. State capital Austin may be found in the state’s southern central region, south of Dallas.

The vastness and diversity of Texas are evident in all of its physical characteristics, economic activity, and social history. Texas was a part of the Spanish Empire for more than a century. It was a part of Mexico from 1821 to 1836 before becoming independent and briefly joined the Union as a republic. Texas was characterized as a lawless frontier state when it became a state. Despite Texans’ strong devotion to their cowboy culture, the perception of Texas has shifted considerably over the previous century. Texans are proud of their state’s great agricultural wealth, oil and natural gas dominance, business and finance, and vibrant cultural scene thanks to the state’s numerous urban areas.

The term “thecas” means friends or “allies” in the Caddo language, therefore the name of the state in English. It was called “Texas” by European colonists since that’s what the native Americans called it. East Texas and West Texas have a well-defined boundary despite the fact that the exact line dividing the two states remains unclear. A few exceptions exist to this generalization. Unlike West Texas, which has a dry environment yet is home to cattle ranching and thus has ties to the Western U.S., East Texas is known for cotton and has ties to the South. The area is 268,597 square miles (695,662 square km). In 2020, the population is expected to be 29.183.290.

The lush and densely populated Coastal Plains lie to the southeast, while the high plains and mountains are to the west and northwest. Nearly two-fifths of Florida’s land area is on the Coastal Plains, which range in altitude from sea level to about 300 meters inland from the Gulf Coast. These low-lying flat plains form a fertile crescent for farming and cattle raising. Most of the land along the coast is swampy or marshy unless it has been artificially drained.

The Coastal Plains come to an end at the Balcones Escarpment. The Edwards Plateau and North Central Plains tablelands are to your south and north, respectively, as you proceed north of this fault. The region’s economy is focused on farming and livestock production, and it’s located between 200 and 750 meters above sea level. The Hill Country is dotted with small enterprises and recreation sites.

The North Plains region, which contains Amarillo, relies heavily on agriculture, ranching, oil, and other small industries. Lubbock, the largest city in the South Plains region, sits atop massive subsurface water reservoirs. Large-scale irrigated cotton production is made possible by these reservoirs.

From the western edge of the North Central Plains to its southernmost point, this granite protrusion extends north and south for about 200 miles (320 km). In Texas, the Trans-Pecos region is located south of the escarpment, while the High Plains region is located north of it.

The West Texas High Plains are the birthplace of many myths and legends regarding Texas weather and cowboys. These lowlands are prone to sandstorms. Large, flat riverbeds that are dry for the majority of the year can generate flash floods. Staked Plain, or Llano Estacado, is an area of flat, arid territory in this part of the world. Spanish explorers from New Spain (modern-day Mexico) commanded by Francisco Vázquez de Coronado supposedly traveled through the area in the mid-16th century and planted stakes to serve as return directions. It was dangerous enough to cross these huge areas that even the local Native Americans were cautious of doing so.

The state’s most mountainous region is located west of the Pecos River. A bend in the Rio Grande gives Big Bend Country its name, and the Guadalupe Mountains, which drop from the Rocky Mountains, lead there. Big Bend is a region of the United States. Texas’ highest peak is Guadalupe Peak, at 8,749 feet (2,667 meters) above sea level. There is still a lot of aridity in Big Bend National Park.
