On October 1, 1931, Fred Leo Kipp was born. He was a professional baseball player who played for the New York Yankees and the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers before retiring. He has the distinction of being the only surviving athlete to have played for both the New York Yankees and the Brooklyn Dodgers. During the years 1950 to 1964, Kipp participated in both semi-professional and professional baseball. In 1953, he signed a contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers.
