American professional stock car racing driver Hailie Rochelle Deegan was born on July 18, 2001, and she is of American descent. She drives the No. 13 Ford F-150 for ThorSport Racing, part of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, which she participates in full-time. Formerly a driver with Toyota Racing Development, Deegan is presently employed by Ford Performance as a race car driver.

In his youth, Deegan competed in off-road and dirt racing; in 2016, he shifted to racing on asphalt to pursue a career in stock car racing. In 2018, she competed in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, the first race of her career in NASCAR. As a result of her success in the West Series throughout the 2018 and 2019 racing seasons, she established herself as the first female driver ever to win a race. Brian Deegan is her father, and she is his daughter.

When Deegan was seven years old, she started riding dirt motorcycles, and on her eighth birthday, she was given a Trophy Kart as a present, which prompted her to begin participating in short-course off-road racing. In 2009, she competed in the SXS Stadium Series Trophy Kart class for the first time and won the race. In addition to that, she competed in the last two races of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) Junior 1 Karts division at the Primm Valley Motorsports Complex. When she triumphed in the Junior 2 Karts class in 2013, she made history by being the first female driver to win a LOORRS championship.

2015, Deegan won the Modified Kart Regional Championship; in 2016, he won the Modified Kart National Championship. The 2016 Lucas Oil Off Road Driver of the Year award was also bestowed on her. 2017 was the second consecutive year that Deegan competed in the Pro Lite category of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series at a full-time level. In the history of the LOORRS, she is one of just four women—the others being Corry Weller, Kali Kinsman, and Megan Mitchell—to have won a class title.

After transitioning to pavement racing, Deegan continued to compete off-road on occasion. She competed in the side-by-side (SXS) support class of the Nitro Rallycross event held at Florida International Rally and Motorsports Park in December 2021, and she finished sixth and fourth, respectively, in the two races that were held there. The weekend of March 11–13, 2022, was free for the Truck Series, so Deegan took advantage of it to make her debut in the Mint 400 Unlimited Truck Spec class.

In 2016, Deegan participated in the NASCAR Drive for Diversity program, and the following year, she was honored with the NASCAR Diversity Young Racer Award. In May 2017, Deegan was one of nine drivers to be selected for the 2017 NASCAR Next class. Of the nine drivers, she was the only woman and the youngest class member. She also joined Toyota’s driver development program around the same time. On January 3, 2018, it was announced that Deegan would compete full-time in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West for Bill McAnally Racing (BMR). This team had won the West Series title in the previous three seasons.

It was stated that in addition to that, she will compete in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East for McAnally on a part-time basis. Deegan was the only female driver who participated in either of the K&N Series events full-time in 2018. On February 11, Deegan made her debut in the inaugural race of the East Series season at New Smyrna Speedway. Although she started eighth in the race, she was forced to pull out of the competition on lap 19 due to mechanical issues. Deegan finished sixth at her first race in the West Series, which took place on March 15 at Kern County Raceway Park.

NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series champion from 2014, Kevin Harvick, who finished fourth in the race, was impressed with Deegan’s performance and said, “If I had to pick one person to say, ‘Alright, that’s the person I would want to represent and has the most potential,’ it would probably be Hailie Deegan. She performed extremely, very well.”

On May 15, it was revealed that Deegan will participate in the NASCAR Next program for a second consecutive year. Deegan was one of four drivers returning to the program from the previous season. She was once again the sole female student in the 2018–19 cohort, holding the title of youngest. On May 19, she finished fourth at Orange Show Speedway, the first time in her career that she had placed in the top five.

During the driver introductions in Sonoma, Deegan finished third in her qualifying race and got her high school diploma. She completed the race in seventh place, marking her sixth top-ten finish in as many West Series competitions. In her next race, which took place at Roseburg, Deegan finished in second place behind her BMR teammate, Derek Kraus. This result not only established a new benchmark for her best career finish in the series but also tied her with Kenzie Ruston, Nicole Behar, and Julia Landauer for the record for the best K&N Pro Series finish by a woman. All of these drivers are also graduates of NASCAR Next.

Deegan became the first woman in NASCAR history to earn a pole position in the K&N level when she qualified on the first row for the Star Nursery 100 at the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The race was for the K&N level. Despite having a problem with her shifter throughout the first part of the race, she managed to finish in second place in the event, which is tied for the best performance in her whole racing career. On September 29, Deegan made history by being the first woman to win at the level of the K&N Pro Series. She did it by winning the NAPA Auto Parts Idaho 208 race, which took place at the Meridian Speedway in Idaho.

On the race’s penultimate lap, Deegan overtook her BMR teammate Cole Rouse, which turned out to be the only lap she led throughout the competition. Her victory was the second for a woman in a NASCAR touring series race. Shawna Robinson achieved the first victory for a woman in a NASCAR race in the 1980s in the NASCAR Dash Series, which has since been discontinued. Deegan was able to claim the Rookie of the Year award for the series by finishing in sixth place two races later at the K&N West season finale at Kern County. This victory brought Deegan’s overall finish for the year to a conclusion.

In 2019, Deegan returned to BMR for another full and half schedule in the K&N West Series and the K&N East Series, respectively. Rain forced the postponement of qualifying for the first race of the East series, which took place at New Smyrna. As a result, Deegan inherited the pole position after posting the quickest practice time. After leading the first six laps of the race at New Smyrna for the second year in a row, Deegan finally had to pull out of the competition due to a technical problem and finished the race in 16th place. Before the start of the 2019 season, the race date for the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway was shifted so that it could serve as the first race of the season for the West Series.

By making another move in the last lap, this time on Sunrise Ford Racing’s Jagger Jones, Deegan scored her second career victory in the K&N Pro Series race. On March 1, 2019, Deegan revealed his intentions to run in the ARCA Menards Series for Venturini Motorsports. He will participate in a total of six events. On May 19, Deegan appeared in a series race in Toledo, driving the No. 55 Toyota Camry for Venturini. She finished in 18th place, which was last, after being involved in a collision with Joe Graf Jr. during qualifying. During practice, she had a ranking of 12th.

At Colorado National Speedway, Deegan won her third K&N West career race. Some people saw her triumph as controversial because she won the race by spinning out her colleague Kraus for the victory on the last lap. Although she did not lead a single lap throughout the race and ended seventh after a late-race collision with teammate Lawless Alan, Deegan won the pole position for the next race, which was placed in Sonoma.

At the second race of the K&N East series in August, Deegan debuted with the DGR-Crosley team. The event took place in Bristol. She revealed that she would compete for DGR in their No. 54 Toyota Camry in the race, even though she had previously said the race would be a part of her schedule with Venturini. Towards the end of the same month, Deegan competed in the combined East and West Series event at Gateway. Despite his efforts, he could only finish ninth and argued with the seasoned competitor Todd Souza. Late in the race, Deegan and Souza came into touch with one other, and Souza said that Deegan’s driving was “disrespectful.”

In October, Deegan finished in the top five in an ARCA race for the first time at Indianapolis Raceway Park. The following weekend, she competed in the K&N West event at Roseville and had a solid showing there. She posted quickly in both practice sessions, won the pole position, and finished second in the race. After the 2019 season, Deegan finished fourth position at ISM Raceway, which was good enough to secure third place in the overall championship point standings.
