English broadcaster Kathryn Mary “Kate” Garraway was born on May 4th, 1967. The role she played on ITV Breakfast made her a household name. Garraway hosts the mid-morning show on Smooth Radio and the morning show on ITV, Good Morning Britain. These two shows are available during the week. She has hosted several daytime programs in the past, including Daybreak (from 2010 to 2014), Lorraine (from 2010 to 2014), and GMTV. Garraway was a guest host for the National Lottery Draws broadcasts on BBC One between 2014 and 2016.
Since joining ITV Central in 1994, Garraway has served as a production journalist, reporter, and news presenter for the network’s South region’s version of ITV News Central. A manager “talent found” her while she was delivering a three-minute report on ITV Central, and she was hired on ITV Meridian in 1996 to co-host the South East edition of ITV News Meridian. This was an ITV Meridian affiliate. In 1997, she became widely known in the United Kingdom after broadcasting significant events on BBC News 24, including the signing of the Good Friday Agreement. In 1998, Garraway joined Martin Stanford on Sky News’s Sunrise as a co-host.
After joining the GMTV team in September 2000, Garraway has spent every Friday since then co-hosting GMTV Today with Andrew Castle (and Thursdays later on). As time went on, Garraway began working alongside Hosts Fiona Phillips and Emma Crosby. In 2009, she was a co-host on the revived GMTV alongside Ben Shephard. Mondays, Tuesdays, and occasionally Wednesdays were her presentation days. During her time at GMTV, Garraway co-hosted shows alongside the likes of Eammon Holmes, John Stapleton, and Dan Lobb. The last show she ever did was on August 31, 2010, thus it was her last.
She co-hosted the 2004 season of Too Many Cooks. She was the quizmaster for an episode of “The People’s Quiz” in 2007. Davina McCall replaced the original host at a later time. David Walliams’s “Wall of Fame” included Garraway as a regular panelist. She was promoted to entertainment editor for Daybreak on ITV Breakfast (ITV’s substitute for GMTV) in September of 2010. On the 6th of December 2011, she temporarily replaced Christine Bleakly as the main host.
On May 4, 2012, it was announced that Lorraine Kelly would permanently replace Bleakly commencing in September of that year. Garraway’s new contract to fill in for Kelly on Friday presentations was made public on August 3, 2012. Kelly hadn’t shown up to work in over a week. On February 15, 2014, it was reported that Kelly would also be hosting the Lorraine show on Fridays. This day in 2014, March 3rd,
It was announced that Good Morning Britain would replace Daybreak, first on Fridays, with a newsreader. In addition to these alterations, it was also announced that Lorraine Kelly would now anchor the show five days a week, replacing Garraway on Fridays. That’s because the new circumstances had rendered Garraway’s position unnecessary. She hosted her final episodes of Daybreak and Lorraine on April 25, 2014, before making her debut on Good Morning Britain the following month.
Since Garraway began working at Good Morning Britain, the number of times she has been on Lorraine has reduced. Due to Ben Shephard’s reduced weekly appearances on ITV Breakfast from three to two, Garraway has once again taken over as the show’s lead presenter in the interim. Since the show aired four times a week, Garraway was the sole host until Piers Morgan joined the team later that year. Every Friday, Garraway and Ben Shepherd co-host the show Good Morning Britain, and every Thursday, Garraway, Susanna Reid, and Shepherd read the news together.
When the regular host was unavailable, Garraway hosted a few episodes of The National Lottery Draws on BBC One here and there between March 2014 and November 2016. The cameo was in the September 2017 episode of Hollyoaks. Garraway was a contestant on the fifth season of Strictly Come Dancing, where he danced with professional dancer Anton du Bake. Despite obtaining the lowest mark from the judges in every week but one, Garraway nevertheless managed to place eighth out of the 14 couples. She was continuously spared by viewer votes until week seven, when she was finally removed. The judges consistently gave Garraway the lowest possible score, and he nevertheless managed to place eighth overall.
When the Sunday Mirror published a photo of Garraway hugging du Bake in February 2008 and implied that the two were having an affair, Garraway and du Bake both filed lawsuits against the newspaper. Garraway began her career in radio at BBC Radio Oxford, and by 1994 she was working as an ITN trainee journalist. On the 18th and 19th of August 2012, Garraway appeared as a co-host on two editions of “Weekend Breakfast” (with Colin Paterson). Through the weekend of September 8-10, Garraway aired multiple replays of Colin Paterson’s “Weekend Breakfast” show. On October 6, 2013, she filled in for Andrew Castle during his planned program on LBC Radio.
Garraway has been the anchor of a daily morning show on Smooth Radio since March 2014. In 1998, Garraway wed Ian Rumsey, her former boss at ITV Meridian, in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. According to a report in the Daily Mail, Garraway built an extension onto her home in north London without acquiring the necessary permits from the city. To win them over, she filed a retroactive planning application, but they rejected it and told her to make the addition smaller. Kate Garraway spent the year between her time at Fitzhenry’s School and her enrollment at Bath University working as the operator of the shrink-wrapping machine at a toilet roll maker. Besides “Too Many Cooks,” which aired on ITV, she has also hosted “The People’s Quiz,” which aired on the BBC National Lottery. In 2004, according to The Telegraph, “a half-eaten banana autographed by the GMTV presenter Kate Garraway received £1,650 in an eBay auction… a few days after the eBay hijinks, a businessman paid £3,000 for the simple pleasure of seeing Garraway, then 37, eat a banana.”

The BBC reported in April 2008 that Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway had settled for a large sum of money in libel damages with the Daily Mirror and Sunday Mirror due to false allegations of adultery between her and her partner on Strictly Come Dancing, Anton Du Bake. Garraway’s alleged affair with Du Bake during their time working on Strictly Come Dancing provided the basis for these allegations.
