Martha Helen Stewart is an American retail businesswoman, author, and television personality who was born on August 3, 1941. She made a name for herself as the founder of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, which included publishing, television, retailing, and e-commerce, among other projects. She is the publisher of Martha Stewart Living magazine and the host of two syndicated television shows, Martha Stewart Living (1993–2004) and Martha (2005–2012).

She launched Martha Stewart Living, a weekly half-hour television show based on her magazine, in 1993. In 1997, the show moved to weekdays, then to a full hour in 1999, with half-hour episodes on weekends, and it aired until 2004. Stewart also appeared on NBC’s Today Show and then CBS’s The Early Show as a regular contributor, as well as starring in various CBS holiday specials.
Stewart was able to raise funds in September 1997, with the help of business partner Sharon Patrick, to buy the many television, print, and merchandise operations associated with the Martha Stewart brand and merge them into a new firm called Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (MSLO).
