Steve Toussaint

Steve Toussaint is a British actor whose family is originally from Barbados. Steve Toussaint’s mother and father both came from Barbados, but he was genuinely born in the United Kingdom. Due to a conflict with another actor’s usage of the surname “Toussaint,” he was forced to formally adopt the name.

The name was chosen in honor of the Haitian revolutionary Toussaint Louverture (as at the time he had been reading about him in “The Black Jacobins” by CLR James). It wasn’t until the middle of the 1990s that British actor Steve Toussaint made his debut in a major motion picture. Supporting roles in films like “Judge Dredd” and “Circus” were all he could get at the time. Even after the year 2000 had passed, he continued to work in the film industry, appearing in movies such as “Dog Eat Dog” and “The Order.”

Many of his awards came as a direct result of his performances in these roles. His theater experience is extensive, and he has worked in many other fields, such as voice acting for cartoons and media. He also has a lot of experience working in the movie business. In addition to that, he possesses a profound knowledge of political theory. Shooting Dogs, In the Long Run, Line of Duty, Inspector Lewis, and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time are just a few of the films in which he has appeared. Without making any intentional attempt, he infuses the narrative with his captivating presence and distinct persona.

People remember Toussaint even when he wasn’t the main character. This displays the amount of skill he possesses. Despite this, Steve is currently back in the spotlight due to his starring role as “Corlys Velaryon” in the medieval fantasy series “House of the Dragon,” which airs on HBO. He has been involved in the school’s theatrical productions ever since he was a young boy, and he has even had a few small roles in the plays that have been staged. During this time, he was also a member of the theatrical productions that were put on at his school. He began his professional life working for a Merchant Bank, but later left to seek a career in show business in the United States. He moved there, started helping out at a local theater, and started taking acting classes on the side, all of which eventually led to him getting his Equity Card. The Genie in “Aladdin” was the first professional role he had the pleasure of playing, and it was presented at the Churchill Theatre in 1990.

He also performed in productions of “Macbeth” and “The Merchant of Venice,” both directed by Michael Boyd, as a member of The Royal Shakespeare Company. In 1994, with the miniseries “The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes,” Steve made his debut in the entertainment sector.  Since then, he regularly contributes to several film and TV productions every year. In 1995, he made his acting debut in the film I.D., in which he played the role of Shadwell Fan. In 1999, Toussaint was simultaneously cast in the television series Casualty, the film Doomwatch: Winter Angel, and the television movie Jack of Hearts, which led to his major break in the acting industry.

He first appeared on TV in the series Silent Witness, and later in Line of Duty. He has since starred in several other movies. Steve Toussaint plays the pivotal role of Lord Corlys Velaryon / Sea Snake in “House of the Dragon,” a prequel to the smash hit “Game of Thorne.” An interview with a 57-year-old actor was published by The Guardian, and in it, the man voiced his delight and surprise at a number of developments.

When he found out he would be playing the show’s dream lead, he was elated. The five auditions he had to go through before he was cast were long and arduous. The public announcement of his casting, however, was met with controversy from certain quarters because of the striking discordance between his dark skin tone and the novel’s image of Velaryon, who is described as having white skin, light hair, and purple eyes. Velaryon, the protagonist of the tale, embodies these traits. He was offended by the racial slurs that were directed at him, and he felt compelled to take revenge. Ever since he can remember, he’s been quite enthusiastic about live theater.

He was active in the school’s drama club and even appeared in several productions. While Toussaint’s first job out of college was at a merchant bank, he eventually left that position and moved to the United States to seek a career in show business. In the year 1990, at New York’s Churchill Theater, he made his professional theater debut in the role of the Genie in Aladdin. A theater company hired him the year before.

In addition, he has performed in Michael Boyd-directed RSC productions of Macbeth and The Merchant of Venice. Michael Boyd served as director for both of these shows. It’s worth noting that all of these plays have actually been performed onstage. His professional debut came in 1994, when he played Steve Dixie on the first season of The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes. In addition, it was the first job he’d ever held. On February 11, 2021, it was announced on gameofthrones.com that Toussaint will be playing Corlys Velaryon in a future production of House of the Dragon. The actor expressed his mixed emotions at the news in an interview with The Guardian.

According to an article in The Hollywood Reporter, the actor is certain that he and his two partners, Eve Best and Rhaenys, are the only people in the world who are together for no other reason but love. They said it about themselves and their significant others. His next comment, explaining that his character “Doesn’t Always Pay Attention, but He Seek Her Advice,” offered an interesting spin on the situation depicted in the show. Steve Toussaint has spoken up about the racism he has faced from some Game of Thrones fans before. He talked to The Guardian about a variety of things, including how ludicrous it is that some think his casting as Corlys Velaryon is the most implausible part of the dragon fantasy show. He spoke directly to the ridiculousness of the concept.

Just don’t have time to defend myself or anyone else in this thread from the insults of some keyboard warrior hiding out in his mom’s old bedroom. For any trouble this may create, I sincerely apologize. Steve Toussaint only had four weeks of training before filming the brutal beach sequences in House of the Dragon, thus he was completely unprepared for the role. After all, every season of Game of Thrones cannot conclude without a massive fight.

Zooming in from his London apartment, Toussaint laughs as he recalls the exhausting experience he just had. My protagonist is armed not with a weapon but with a massive staff covered in medals. Thanks to having Miguel Sapochnik as a co-showrunner, we know that the fight scenes in Toussaint are in good hands. Sapochnik won an Emmy for directing an episode of Game of Thrones, “Battle of the Bastards,” which aired in Season 6. Especially when you consider that his alter ego, the Sea Snake, has an incredible track record of fighting on land and in the ocean.

House Velaryon’s lord, Lord Corlys, amassed his fortune as a sailor throughout the Seven Kingdoms, eventually becoming the wealthiest man in all of Westeros. It also made him the wealthiest man in all of Westeros and gave him command of the most powerful navy in the region. His family, the Velaryons, also recognizes him as their lord. He married into the Targaryen family through Princess Rhaenys and is now an ally of King Viserys I despite his Valyrian heritage (Eve Best). His marriage into the powerful Targaryen dynasty paved the way for this alliance to form. Having married Princess Rhaenys, he now has a stronger bond with King Viserys I. (Paddy Considine).

Steve Toussaint plays Lord Corlys Velaryon on the HBO show House of the Dragon. The show, a spinoff of the wildly successful Game of Thrones, premiered on August 21 to widespread acclaim and massive viewership. But Toussaint did not get the same warm reception. House of the Dragon tries to make amends for the problematic portrayal of minorities in earlier seasons of Game of Thrones by HBO.

However, racist viewers have began complaining about the show’s casting choices. Corlys Velaryon’s hair is described as “Targaryen white-blonde” in George R.R. Martin’s novel Fire & Blood. The movie House of the Dragon was inspired by this book. Some people are still dissatisfied, despite the fact that Velaryon has the white hair of the Targaryens in the show. To highlight the ludicrousness of their assertions, Toussaint compares them to the far more improbable events that take place in the lands of Westeros.

George R.R. Martin, the show’s creator, has a mind that operates in mysterious ways, as any fan of “Game of Thrones” can attest. When contending for the Iron Throne, the houses of Westeros are known to routinely stab each other in the back, which can result in the death of key persons at any time.
