Thunder Rosa is the ring name of Mexican-American professional wrestler Melissa Cervantes, born on July 22, 1986. Cervantes is currently contracted to All Elite Wrestling (AEW), where she is the current AEW Women’s World Champion in her first reign. Cervantes is recognized by her ring name Thunder Rosa. She made her debut in 2014 and has since competed in World Wonder Ring Stardom (“Stardom”), National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), and Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling (TJPW), where she is a former NWA Women’s World Champion and a former International Princess Champion. Her first appearance was in 2014.

Cervantes began her career as a social care worker but transitioned to wrestling in late 2014. After winning the NWA World Women’s Championship in 2019, Cervantes debuted in All Elite Wrestling (AEW). After an initial match against Hikaru Shida, the reigning AEW Women’s World Champion at the time, Cervantes began climbing the ranks, resulting in her and the upcoming highly popular Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D main eventing Dyanamite for the first time in March 2021.

Cervantes continued climbing the ranks, and a year later, at the same event with the same name, she won the AEW Women’s World Championship by prevailing over Baker in the inaugural AEW Women’s Steel Cage match. Baker was her opponent in that match. Cervantes is also the founder and owner of Mission Pro Wrestling (MPW), an independent wrestling organization in Texas exclusively dedicated to women’s wrestling. Late in 2014, in Sacramento, California, during a Supreme Pro Wrestling battle royal, Cervantes made her debut in wrestling.

Throughout the year 2015, she had several performances all across the state of California. On April 12, she made her debut in Japan for World Wonder Ring Stardom (Stardom), the world’s most prestigious all-woman wrestling company. On April 29, 2019, Rosa made her Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling debut, partnering with Yuki Aino against MIZUKI and Yuka Sakazaki. Rosa became the first gaijin titleholder in Tokyo Joshi Pro history when she defeated Maki Itoh in the International Princess Championship on January 5, 2020. Maki had previously held the title.

Rosa announced that she would no longer compete for the title on October 7 because of COVID-19 regulations preventing her from traveling to Japan. On June 19, it was announced that Rosa would return to TJPW to face Miyu Yamashita on July 9 at Summer Sun Princess for her AEW Women’s World Championship. Rosa defeated Yamashita to retain her AEW Women’s World Championship, marking the first time Rosa returned to TJPW since the COVID-19 Pandemic began in March 2020. Additionally, this marked the first time that the AEW Women’s World Championship was defended outside of North America.

Cervantes/Thunder Rosa “wrestles stiff” due to the training she received from Matt Carlos and Dylan Drake, who are from North Carolina. Her wrestling style combines severe hitting, furious submissions, lucha libre, technical abilities, and incredible feats of strength. Her style of wrestling is aggressive, dynamic, and explosive. Fans have shown their support for Thunder Rosa regardless of whether she has been portrayed as a “face” (hero) or a “heel” (evil). Her public demeanor is purposefully unconventional; she is brave, aggressive, highly self-confident, stubborn, and loud.

Thunder Road was a youth rehabilitation center where Cervantes worked for nearly two years. Her time there coincided with her wrestling career’s training and launch periods. Thus she gave herself the ring moniker “Thunder Rosa” as an homage to the facility. After attending a wrestling match, Cervantes, her husband, and a Thunder Road employee were in the vehicle together when the idea for cooperation came to them. Cervantes wished for a name that would honor her work with adolescents, be simple for her supporters to shout during her matches, and appeal to Latinos and non-Latino Americans in the United States.

Cervantes’ face paint for the Day of the Dead honors, celebrates, and fights for the memory of people’s deceased loved ones. It also symbolizes rebirth, victory over a personal and family tragedy, and triumph over personal and family sorrow. The face paint was offered to Cervantes by a Latino wrestling booker at an independent event in California where she was appearing. He said her face would distract the audience from her role because it was “too pretty.” Cervantes agreed to try it out. Cervantes did not apply the Day of the Dead face paint anywhere else for fear of being typecast as a “Mexican wrestler” caricature or stereotype by non-Latin promoters or bookers.

When Cervantes’ uncle saw one of her bouts (during a taping of Lucha Underground), he informed her that he had been to a wrestling event for the first time in years. Cervantes’ matches are taped for Lucha Underground. Her uncle, a little boy at the time who watched wrestling every week, was sitting on the lap of Cervantes’ grandpa when the latter had a fatal heart attack during a wrestling exhibition in Tijuana.

Since then, the uncle of Cervantes has had a solid aversion to wrestling due to the direct and distressing connection it has to the passing of his father. Nevertheless, seeing Cervantes compete in the ring reignited his interest in wrestling from his youth. It persuaded him she was meant to follow in his footsteps as a professional wrestler. After a concussion in Japan left Cervantes unable to work for a month, the paint represents the artist’s return to the workforce and the revival of her profession. When Cervantes returned to the ring, her husband advised her that she should compete while wearing face paint to differentiate herself from the other wrestlers.

Thunder Rosa has not yet been given the all-clear to compete again in the ring. When that time comes, you can bet we’ll be waiting for her with arms wide open. The circumstances have been fascinating. Some of that information ought to be kept secret, but All Access does provide fans with a beautiful opportunity to get insight into what goes on behind the scenes. When Thunder Rosa makes her return, we will have further episodes of All Access getting a peek backstage. I am aware that the locker room and Thunder Rosa have both, at various points, had certain items.

She also believes that most of the discussion should occur amongst everyone in the room. When it comes to All Access, there comes the point when I need to make a choice and say to myself, “This is as much access as anyone backstage would reasonably get.” You’ll see me make difficult decisions about what we show and don’t show in this episode. Thunder Wrestling is one of Rosa’s strengths; she has a long history of success. I am looking forward to catching up with her again. She has done many things that we would expect of her on the way back to attempt to make up with specific individuals, but some things can’t be made right.

Some specific individuals will never get along with one another or become friends with one another. Thunder Rosa and Britt Baker will not get along or become friends. It will likely be a heated competition between them as long as they remain in wrestling. They are not the kind of individuals that would ever get along with one another. Thunder Rosa, we look forward to having her back in the ring. “Some setup is required for the same reason she’s been in the news — the backstage drama Rosa was a part of before and immediately following her injury is one of the major storylines on the All Access reality show that airs after Dynamite*. Thunder Rosa, we look forward to having her back in the ring.”

Some of the discussion centered on the decision to continue Rosa’s reign as Women’s champion after she suffered an injury, proclaiming an interim titleholder until finally terminating Rosa’s reign and removing the temporary tag off Toni Storm’s at the time reigning title. Some people, including Dr. Britt Baker, believed that Rosa should be present for additional tasks that did not include wrestling, even though she was injured. In addition, there may be further problems about which we may never be informed.

Since the AEW Dark: Elevation episode aired on August 15, 2022, fans have not seen Thunder Rosa in competition. As a result of a back ailment, Rosa was forced to give up the AEW Women’s Title before her match against Toni Storm at AEW All Out 2022. Since then, Rosa has not competed again in professional wrestling. During the time that Rosa has been out, Toni Storm has been able to capture the AEW Women’s Interim Title. This title was eventually elevated to the undisputed AEW Women’s Championship as it became clear that Rosa would not return anytime soon.

Rosa pointed out that there have been actual feuds used for financial gain because the parties involved have been able to put their differences aside and focus on what is in the company’s best interest. In addition, she said that she respects the ladies who continue to put their bodies at risk each week. Thunder Rosa has been one of the most well-known names in the AEW women’s division ever since she debuted in the promotion in August of 2020. Thunder was a part of the roster of the NWA when she made her debut, but on July 22, 2021, she became an official member of the AEW roster after having been signed to the NWA.

Even before she was officially added to the roster, she was putting on incredible bouts for All Elite Wrestling (AEW). Particularly noteworthy was that she competed in an unsanctioned Lights Out attack against Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. Thunder ultimately prevailed over Baker to claim the title of AEW Women’s World Champion and continue their long-running rivalry. However, because of her injuries, she cannot participate in any active in-ring competition at this time.At the St. Patrick’s Day Slam 2022, Thunder was victorious and took home the AEW Women’s World Championship.

She won her first championship in the promotion after claiming victory over Baker in a steel cage bout that was both intense and spectacular. Thunder continued to compete against various rivals while she held the champion title. This consisted of Miyu Yamashita, Toni Storm, Nyla Rose, Serena Deeb, and Marina Shafir. When she was the champion, she was also a member of the tag team ThunderStorm, which she established with Toni Storm. Thunder successfully defended her title by claiming victory against Jamie Hayter at the third and final AEW Battle of the Belts event.

On the other hand, the last AEW match she competed in before it was revealed that she had been injured took place on AEW Dark: Elevation. She and Storm teamed up with Hikaru Shida in the game to win over Emi Sakura, Rose, and Shafir. Thunder disclosed that she had had an injury and will take some time off to recover from it in a backstage interview with Tony Schiavone published on August 24, 2022, issue of Dynamite. An interim champion was selected in the AEW All Out event during that period. In a contest involving four competitors, Storm emerged victorious by claiming victory over Baker, Shida, and Hayter.
