Tony Atlas is an American bodybuilder, powerlifter, and professional wrestler who was born Anthony White on April 23, 1954. He is best known by his ring name, which is Tony Atlas. In each of these sports, he has won several titles and championships. In the bodybuilding world, he has the title of “Mr. USA,” which he has won three times. He is also known by the nom de guerre “Black Superman,” and he has a fictitious alter ego named Saba Simba. He made his comeback to World Wrestling Entertainment in the capacity of an on-screen manager.
In 1975, Atlas began competing in the sport of wrestling for the National Wrestling Alliance in the World Wide/Mid-Atlantic region. On July 10, he made his ring debut by teaming up with Bob Bruggers to compete in a tag team battle against Art Neilson and The Blue Scorpion. The duel ended when Atlas completed a sleeper hold on the Blue Scorpion to earn the victory for his squad. During his career, he was employed by World Championship Wrestling (WCW), Jim Crockett Promotions of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), the World Wrestling Council (WWC), World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW), the American Wrestling Association (AWA), and the World Wrestling Federation (WWF).
His frequent companions included people like Tommy Rich (under the alias “TNT”), Dick Murdoch, and Rocky Johnson. In addition, he was the first to press slam and pin Hulk Hogan, even though Hogan’s foot was on the rope, but the referee didn’t see it. Atlas won the NWA Georgia Tag Team Title with Tommy Rich when he was a member of the NWA. After that, he joined forces with Thunderbolt Patterson, Kevin Sullivan, Rocky Johnson, and Mr. Wrestling II. Tony and Rocky Johnson’s victory against the Wild Samoans in the WWF allowed them to become the first Afro-American tag team to hold the WWF World tag team titles.
Johnson quickly left the business after suffering defeat at the hands of Adrian Adonis and Dick Murdoch. Because of a growing drug issue, Atlas missed dates and became unreliable inside and outside the ring. The WWF management was prepared to grant Atlas a run as the company’s Intercontinental champion, but he turned down the opportunity. As a result, Atlas was demoted to the middle of the bill in the WWF and forced to compete in brief tag team matches with Ivan Putski, Lanny Poffo, and George Wells. A jobber to the stars, he promoted up-and-coming talents such as King Kong Bundy and Harley Race. He was also employed in this capacity.
Tony moved to Texas in 1987 to compete in professional wrestling with the World Class Championship Wrestling promotion, where he became known as “The Black Superman.” His career took off almost immediately when he joined forces with Skip Young to capture the World Class Texas Tag Team Title. In 1988, Atlas resigned from the firm. After that, Atlas went on to the autonomous region of the Northeast in the late 1980s. He then turned heel and, under the supervision of The Duke and not Pete Doherty, took the ICW Heavyweight championship away from Joe Savoldi after joining International Championship Wrestling, which is owned and run by Mario Savoldi.
In Middletown, New York, Atlas was defeated by Vic Steamboat, who took home the belt. However, a few months later, he successfully reclaims the belt from Steamboat. Because it was shown so often on the IWCCW program that was distributed throughout the country, the bout gained notoriety. Atlas overcame his drug addiction and made a successful comeback to the World Wrestling Federation in the late 1990s under the guise of Saba Simba. He participated in the 1991 Royal Rumble under this guise. Tony made an appearance on Right After Wrestling on December 13, 2010, when he attributed the role of Saba Simba with saving his life. Before receiving a phone call from Vince McMahon, Tony was homeless and living on a park bench until he was cast as Saba Simba.
He was cast as a warrior from a Ugandan tribe; however, this gimmick was, at best, controversial and, at worst, labeled racist. Shortly after that, he went to work for WCW. In 1992, he competed in the World Championship Wrestling, and in 1994, he fought for the American Wrestling Federation (AWF). He made a brief appearance in the WWF around WrestleMania 13 when he was seen in the audience rooting for Rocky Maivia and cheering him on. Atlas made an appearance on the episode of ECW that aired on July 8, 2008, and Theodore Long appointed him to the role of special guest ring announcer for the main event, which featured Tommy Dreamer facing off against then-villain Mark Henry with then-babyface Colin Delaney in his corner. Atlas appeared on the show.
Henry could win because Atlas assaulted Delaney, which distracted Dreamer and allowed him to win. Therefore, Henry was declared the victor of the fight by Atlas, even though the war ended officially in a double count-out. Atlas has not performed in a heel role since his short time spent in WCW in 1992. This is the first time he has ever done so. At The Great American Bash, Atlas also accompanied Henry to the boxing ring. At SummerSlam, Atlas was instrumental in Mark Henry retaining his championship by striking Matt Hardy just as it looked that Hardy was about to claim victory.
On the edition of ECW that aired on August 19, 2008, Henry retained his ECW Championship thanks to Atlas’s interference from outside the ring. Atlas was there at Unforgiven to show his support for Henry during the ECW Championship Scramble. Despite Atlas’s presence, Henry could not maintain his title and lost it to Jeff Hardy when Hardy earned the final fall. Atlas returned to professional wrestling on the December 9 episode of ECW, teaming up with Mark Henry for the first time in 17 years to compete in a tag team match in which they prevailed over Finlay and Hornswoggle.
On the episode of ECW that aired on June 9, 2009, Tony was unsuccessful in his attempt to wrestle Evan Bourne. The next day, June 29, Henry was moved to the Raw brand, and as a consequence, Atlas is no longer responsible for managing him. Atlas made his comeback on “The Abraham Washington Show” on September 1, 2009, performing the role of announcer for a part of the show. He would play the role of Abraham’s sidekick and laugh at his jokes with a fake, hysterical laugh. In addition, he would be the target of some of Washington’s jokes and attacks. Both he and Washington became free agents as ECW’s run came to an end.
On April 30, 2010, Atlas was given his freedom from his contract with WWE. On the other hand, he made another appearance on the Old School RAW special on November 15 before the match between David Hart Smith, Tyson Kidd, Heath Slater, and Justin Gabriel. In weightlifting, the barbell is an essential piece of equipment. Because it enables you to do such a broad range of exercises, this apparatus is the most versatile piece of device that you can use to strengthen your muscles. Not only are activities such as squats, deadlifts, and bench presses possible with barbells, but other possibilities exist.
You may also use them in various other bicep routines, which will help you build larger arms and a more defined physique overall. Continue reading to find out which barbell exercises will help you develop large biceps like Tony Atlas. It is not enough to raise and lower the barbell; you must ensure that your back remains utterly straight during this exercise. Check to see that you are simply using your arms to lift yourself on the weight. To do this exercise, you should grab a barbell or dumbbell and bring it up to your shoulder. You should curl the weight upwards while keeping your elbows close to your sides. When you have reached the highest point of the movement, begin lowering the weight back down to its starting position in a controlled manner. Carry out between 8 and 12 repetitions. This is the most effective exercise for targeting the apex of your bicep. If you are exercising correctly, you should feel a significant amount of burning in your biceps.
Biceps strength may be improved with the help of this excellent workout. A barbell is an effective piece of equipment for doing this task. The weight should be approximately waist height when it is at its lowest position. Set the importance up on the rack such that it will achieve this. Take hold of the barbell and curl it up with as much weight as possible while maintaining proper form. The amount of weight you are able to handle will vary based on your strength level. “Cheat” by swaying forward and utilizing momentum to get it beyond your knees, then lowering it back down under control when you have completed the “cheat.”
Reverse curls are a safe and effective workout option when working your biceps. By approaching the exercise from a variety of angles, not only does this terrific exercise work the long head and the short head of your biceps, but it also works your forearms. To begin, choose a bench to sit on, then position your feet completely flat on the ground. Holding a barbell with both hands at arm’s length next to your body while keeping your elbows tucked in and closed together is the correct form for this exercise.
While maintaining the straight position of your wrists, progressively curl the weight towards your shoulders. If you want to avoid undue strain on your elbows and shoulders, you shouldn’t allow the lifting objects to fall lower than shoulder height. Doing so will put your joints in an uncomfortable position. As a wrestler, Atlas was involved in many exciting occasions, and his admirers still think about those times to this day. However, throughout all of his spectacular matches and achievements, there are some things that people have forgotten about him, even though he has accomplished a lot.
There are some aspects of Tony Atlas’s career that fans don’t remember either, maybe because they didn’t have nearly as significant of an influence or just because they’ve been forgotten over time. Tony Atlas’s final critical moment in his career occurred on WWE’s version of ECW when he was allowed to manage Mark Henry. This was an important moment for Tony Atlas. It was determined that the World’s Strongest Man would be the best person to serve as the legend’s manager, which proved to be a successful combination. Naturally, because the program was more or less the third brand and didn’t get as much attention as others, many people forgot that Atlas and Henry worked together for a considerable time. This is because the show didn’t draw as much attention as the others.
