Yuzvendra Chahal, an Indian international cricketer who was born on July 23, 1990, is a leg spin bowler for the Indian cricket team in white ball cricket. Chahal has been a member of the Indian cricket squad since 2013. In addition, he is a member of the Haryana team competes in domestic cricket, and the Rajasthan Royals team which competes in the Indian Premier League. He bowls right-arm leg breaks with a breaking action. In the history of Twenty20 Internationals, Chahal was the second player and the first Indian to achieve a six-wicket haul.
He made history by being the first player with a head injury to be awarded the man-of-the-match trophy in an international cricket match. He is a former chess player who used to compete for India on the world chess stage. Chahal was first brought on board by Mumbai Indians in the year 2011. However, during the 2011 Champions League Twenty20, he participated in every game and featured in just one game throughout all three seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL). That game was played on April 24 and was against Kolkata Knight Riders.
During the Final match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, he had two wickets and nine wicketless overs, which was vital in enabling Mumbai to defend their total score of 139 and win the tournament. He was acquired by the Royal Challengers for the sum of 10 lakh Indian rupees at the player auction for the 2014 Indian Premier League. In the 2014 Indian Premier League, he was honored with the Man of the Match award for his performance against Delhi Daredevils. In the first month of 2018, the Royal Challengers Bangalore participated in the auction for the Indian Premier League and purchased him back.
During the Mega auction that was held in February 2022 for the 2022 Indian Premier League competition, the Rajasthan Royals were the ones who purchased him. Chahal got a hat-trick and five wickets during the Indian Premier League match that took place on April 18th, 2022 against the Kolkata Knight Riders. During the first match of the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League, which was played between the Rajasthan Royals and the Sunrisers Hyderabad, he became the first Indian player to take 300 wickets in Twenty20 matches.
After finding out that he would not be playing for India in either the Asia Cup or the World Cup, Chahal signed a contract with the English team Kent County Cricket Club in September 2023 to play for the balance of the 2023 County Championship season. In 2016, he was selected as part of the 14-man group that will travel to Zimbabwe. At the Harare Sports Club on the 11th of June, 2016, he made his debut in a One Day International (ODI) match against Zimbabwe. Richmond Mutumbami was the first batsman he dismissed in ODIs.
In the second game, Chahal led his team to triumph by a margin of eight wickets and grabbed three wickets while conceding just 26 runs. He bowled his second over at a pace of 109 kilometers per hour and produced a seam-up delivery. In addition, the bowling performance he put in won him the first international Man of the Match award. On June 18, 2016, he made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut against Zimbabwe in Harare. Malcolm Waller was the player he took wickets against in his maiden Twenty20 International.

On February 1, 2017, he made history by being the first bowler to ever do so for India in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). He finished the match against England with statistics of 6/25. Yuzvendra Chahal holds the record for the most wickets taken by a legspinner in a Twenty20 International (6/25), and he was the first legspinner to ever achieve both a five-wicket and a six-wicket haul in a Twenty20 International. He finished 2017 with 23 wickets, which was the most of any bowler in Twenty20 Internationals.
Additionally, Chahal achieved this feat in the third Twenty20 International that India played against England on February 1, 2017, becoming the first Indian bowler to do so in Twenty20 Internationals. On the 18th of January 2019, Chahal achieved his second five-wicket haul in a One-Day International match against Australia by capturing 6/42. These were the joint greatest numbers by an Indian bowler against Australians after Ajit Agarkar in 2003/04, who had the best stats by an Indian bowler against Australians. These were also the greatest numbers ever recorded by an Indian spinner playing against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
In this particular encounter, Australia reached 230 runs in 48.5 overs, but India was able to comfortably chase that total and win the game by seven wickets because of some excellent performances from M.S. Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav. The month of April 2019 saw him get a spot on India’s team to compete in the 2019 Cricket World Cup. His performance in the World Cup concluded with 12 wickets.[16] In November 2019, he became the third bowler for India to collect 50 wickets in Twenty20 Internationals when he did it during the third T20I against Bangladesh.
Chahal came in for Ravindra Jadeja in the first Twenty20 International match that India played against Australia on December 4, 2020. Jadeja was out with a concussion. Later on, Chahal was awarded the man of the match title, making him the first concussion replacement to ever get this honor in an international cricket competition. In June of 2021, he was selected to play for India in their One-Day International (ODI) squad when they faced Sri Lanka in a series.
The only player to have ever done so, Chahal has competed for India in both chess and cricket. He was selected to play for India in the World Youth Chess Championship, but he eventually gave up the game after he was unable to get a financial backer for his chess career. According to the most recent FIDE ratings, Chahal has a rating of 1956, which can be seen on the official website of the World Chess Federation. Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma, a YouTuber, dance choreographer, and dentist, were engaged on August 8, 2020, and they had a small, private ceremony to celebrate their marriage on December 22, 2020, in Gurgaon.
In the year 2022, he divulged the fact that when he was playing for the Mumbai Indians, a drunken teammate had dangled him from a balcony on the 15th level. This disclosure led to demands for stern punishment; nevertheless, he did not identify the player who was involved. Earlier on, both Andrew Symonds and James Franklin had tied him up inside a room and locked the door. Yuzvendra Chahal, a spinner, was not selected for the Indian side that would compete in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 because the Indian team could not afford for both of its specialist spinners to be unable to bat effectively.
Multi-talented players are given priority in today’s game, even though the fundamental responsibility of a bowler is to stop runs from being scored and take wickets. As a consequence of this, India’s third spin bowling option is the all-rounder Axar Patel, who follows Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja in the pecking order. Patel and Jadeja were selected for the team even though they both provided the same services because of their ability to contribute in a variety of areas.

However, even when Patel had an injury to his quadriceps and was forced to withdraw from the World Cup, the Indian selection committee did not see the need to consider Chahal as a replacement. Ravichandran Ashwin, who bats right-handed, was brought in as a replacement for the southpaw so that India could finally have the spinner they wanted who could also contribute with the bat. Because of the same factor that enables Shardul Thakur to play foreign Tests, it was decided that Ashwin, who had only played two One-Day Internationals in the previous six years before the World Cup, would be given preference.
As a result of Chahal’s lackluster performance in the one-day internationals (ODIs) he had participated in this year, it was very obvious that he had been passed by Kuldeep in the order of preference. On the other hand, the chinaman bowler had taken 33 wickets in 17 one-day internationals up till the global event. It would be dishonest to even compare Chahal to Jadeja since Jadeja is a real all-rounder, thus it is pointless to even make the comparison.
Taking into account his talent, Chahal is well within his rights to believe that he has been treated unfairly. However, to maintain positive dynamics among the team, participants in team sports such as cricket are often required to overlook slights. Chahal was seen at the Wankhede Stadium last week watching the first semi-final with his wife Dhanashree Verma. Chahal will have to watch more matches from the outside in the coming future.
Surprisingly, he was not chosen for the next T20 International series against Australia, which would consist of five matches. Chahal probably would have been selected had it not been for the fact that 13 of India’s 15 World Cup players were unavailable. The team that will compete in the Twenty20 International in August was, for the most part, the same one that will make the trip to Ireland. However, Suryakumar Yadav will be heading the team instead of Japsrit Bumrah, who has been rested along with the majority of the other World Cup squad members. Shreyas Iyer is scheduled to join the series for the last four matches as the vice-captain. Japsrit Bumrah was one of the players who was rested.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was the captain of the Indian team that won the gold medal at the Asian Games in October, would be Suryakumar’s deputy for the first three games of the tournament. Ishan Kishan is the only other player remaining from the side that competed in the ODI World Cup. Yuzvendra Chahal is one of the noteworthy players who did not cut the 15-person roster that was released. Chahal was omitted from the ODI World Cup squad as well, as India chose to have just one leg-spin option in the form of Kuldeep Yadav. Before India’s trip to the West Indies earlier this month, Chahal’s most recent international appearance was for India.
