Lex & Terry is a morning radio show presented by Lex Staley and Terry Jaymes that airs nationally. United Stations Radio Networks distributes Lex and Terry, which is based in Dallas, Texas. On weekdays, it can be heard on radio stations across the United States.
Jaymes rose to prominence prior to the show as an actress on Santa Barbara and as a stand-up comedian, appearing on Fox’s critically regarded The Sunday Comics. Jaymes was also a member of the Blaze and Bob morning programme on KOME “the kome spot on your dial” and hosted mornings at KTYD in Santa Barbara. In 1992, Staley was on his second tour as programme director at WFYV-FM “Rock 105” in Jacksonville, Florida, where he recruited Jaymes to work mornings.
Staley had met Jaymes before in California and promised that if he ever ran a radio station again, Jaymes would be his first and only pick for mornings. Staley had a successful first stint as a programme director at WFYV in the mid-’80s before leaving for a four-year stint as VP of Syndication for World Premiere events for major music acts like Robert Plant, Guns N’ Roses, Bruce Springsteen, Van Halen, and John Mellencamp at the Album Network in Los Angeles. In the summer of 1992, he said his coolest memory was co-producing The Black Crowes Live at the Greek Theatre with soon-to-be world-famous producer Brenden O’Brien. Staley was also the executive producer of In the Studio, a weekly syndicated show hosted by Redbeard. Years later, Staley and Jaymes would be working with Redbeard at KTXQ “Q 102” in Dallas on a daily basis.

Staley and Jaymes began teaming in the mornings on WFYV on December 16, 1992. The first presentation was a frenzy of controversy both inside and outside the theatre, as phones blew up with complaints about Ross Jeffries, the author of How To Get The Women You Want Into Bed. His engagement with WFYV’s new morning team was unlike anything else in the city. Management was so uneasy that Staley was asked to put Jaymes on a plane back to California if that was the show’s fate.
Lex and Terry served notice that things had changed for Jacksonville, WFYV-FM, and its two hosts, unbeknownst to them, this irreverence would set the tone for years to come. The show took a time to get traction, and some viewers were put off by the “two punks in a locker room” mentality. Lex and Terry eventually had Jacksonville’s number one morning programme, with a mix of candid relationship chat, sports (featuring Sam Kouvaris of WJXT), and occasionally music from AC/DC and Danzig. Mark Schwartz, general manager of WFYV, remarked, “Unlike many other morning shows, which rely on stale bits and stuff plagiarised from other radio stations, these guys are completely original. They aren’t reliant on humour services. They’re a hot topic right now.”
Kim McCafferty was the news director throughout the show’s stay in Jacksonville, however she resigned in April 2007 to return to her home state. Scott Richards served as the show’s producer until November 2008, when he moved back to Florida. In 2008, Jason Carr of WZZR in West Palm Beach was named executive producer, and in September 2010, he succeeded Welpton as director of network operations. Carr returned to Florida at the end of 2010. Devell Reed was promoted to Executive Producer/Air Talent, a position he still holds.
