On 12 June 1994, he was charged with assassinating his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. After a long criminal trial, the ‘People v. Simpson’ in 1995, he was exempted from the charges. Later in 1997, he was held liable by a civil court and ordered compensatory and punitive damages of 33.5 million dollars against him.

In the 1990s he tried to record ‘The Juice,’ ‘O.J.’ and ‘O.J. Simpson’ as trademarks for a broad range of goods. After William B. Ritchie opposed his move later in 2000 he gave in. In February 2001 after a traffic dispute, he was arrested in Miami-Dade County, Florida, but released from the trial in October 2001.

The FBI searched his house in Miami on 4 December 2001, suspected of possession of medicines and money laundering. Although no illegal drugs were found, researchers found equipment that could be used to steal satellite TV programs and have been sued before the federal court. On 4 July 2002, he was again arrested in Miami-Dade County for speeding offenses across a manatee zone. Although the charge was dropped, he had to pay the fine.

He was brought before a Miami federal court following ‘DirecTV, Inc.’ in March 2004, a satellite TV network accused Simpson of using illegal electronic equipment to pirate the broadcast signal of the network. He married Nicole Brown on 2 February 1985. The children were Sydney Brooke Simpson and Justin Ryan Simpson. They had two children. Simpson played football first as a tackle, then as a full back, in Galileo High School in San Francisco. He attended San Francisco City College (1965-66) to record his studies at the University of Southern California (USC) where, for rushing yards, he set team records: 1,415 yards, 1967; 1,709 yards, 1968. He was named All-American (1967–68), played two Rose Bowl games, and was the best College player of the season with the Heisman Trophy (1968). He was also a member of a world-leading 440-yard relay team at USC.

The number one choice of American Football League (AFL) Buffalo Bills in 1969 was Simpson, who was frequently referred to as “Juice” due to his energetic runs and because his initials could mean “orange juice.” AFL joined the National Football League the following year (NFL). The Bills were members of the American Football Conference (AFC) of the NFL when Simpson recorded a single-season rush (2,003) for yards in 1973. During his stay, the Bills were never a fighting team, but he was a great box office draw. Injury to his knees led the Bills to sell him to the San Francisco 49ers in 1978, but after 1979 he retired. His 1975 record of the highest touchdowns in one season (23) lasted until 1983, and his rushed 1973 season record for most yards was recorded until 1984 when Eric Dickerson broke it. Simpson led the AFC four times in its rushing yard (1972–73, 1975–76). His total career yards won (11,236) was second at his retirement in the all-time rankings. In 1985, he was brought to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

After withdrawing from football, Simpson became an actor and commentator for films and television. His ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman, died in Los Angeles on 12 June 1994. The two murders were arrested on 17 June by Simpson; he pleaded not guilty and hired a team of prominent lawyers to handle his defense. His long national TV trial was the focus of unparalleled media scrutiny. On 3 October 1995, a jury acquitted Simpson of the murder charges. He was found responsible for the deaths of his ex-wife and Goldman in a separate civil trial decision in 1997, which ordered him to pay $33.5 million in damages to families.
