My name in-game is ZoeTwoDots, which has been my nickname since high school because my real name, Zo, is written with two dots (umlaut) above the “e.” I’m level 40 (XP wise Level 40 x 5). The Pokémon I like the most is Togepi. I think Togepi has always been my favorite. Misty carried that egg around for a whole season, and I was so excited to see what would hatch. When Togepi hatched, I was in love. Togepi is cute and kind, but it’s also sassy and knows what it wants. My daily life is pretty much all about Pokémon. My job is to make videos for YouTube, and right now, most of them are about Pokémon GO.

On a typical day, I go to the gym between 5 and 6 a.m., film for a few hours outside, edit for a few hours in the afternoon, and set that video to play the next morning. Pokémon have always been my favorite. When I was 5 years old and living in Australia, the first time I saw Pokémon anime was in 1998. I’ve been playing Pokémon games my whole life, so when I heard that we’d be able to play them on our phones, I was very excited.

I paid close attention to the rumors about the launch date, and I even made my first video about it the weekend before it came out. I was at my desk at work (at the time, I was doing Graphic Design) when a friend sent me a message saying that the game had started. I’ve never run so fast to get to lunch. The Pokémon themselves, their personalities, and how they look are probably my favorite things about Pokémon in general. Even if you’ve seen a Pokémon for years, you’ll often find something new about its design the more you look at it. Or, the more you learn about the world and how it works as an adult, the more you’ll understand how a Pokémon was made.

I’m really enjoying the Buddy Adventure feature right now. Having my Pokémon follow me around reminds me of how much I used to love Pokémon Soul Silver. But I also really like AR+ photo. This makes me love the way Pokémon look even more. It’s amazing to be able to see a Pokémon in full HD and 3D, walk behind it, look under it, and see details you never knew were there. For example, I didn’t know that Bonsly’s pot had a drainage hole like a regular potted plant until I played around with AR+.

ZoTwoDots: I’ve always wanted my job to have something to do with games. I didn’t have a capture card or a PC that could record or stream games at first, so I couldn’t do it. Not to mention how BAD the internet is in Australia. Our upload speeds were less than 1Mbs, so I couldn’t live stream even if I had that equipment. When GO was announced, I realized that all I need is a phone and a camera. I had also made some travel videos on YouTube, so I just dove in and gave it a try. Taking into account how the internet works, it took me 4 hours to upload a single 10-minute Pokémon GO video during my first 6 months to 1 year on YouTube.

Oooo tough question!! I think that Pokémon is my favorite game series of all time. It’s just been a part of my life for so long. But I also really like the Bioshock games. In fact, Bioshock was the first game I finished 100% and got all the achievements for (including the no deaths extreme difficulty play though haha). Ni No Kuni is one of my favorite games, and I recommend it to anyone who likes Pokémon and Final Fantasy. It was made in collaboration with Studio Ghibli, so the graphics and music are beautiful. I also really like MGS and Portal, which my partner Alan showed me.

It’s hard to choose because I’ve been lucky enough to meet so many people and make so many memories. But I think the 2018 Chicago GO Fest is the best. It was my first time at a Pokémon GO event in person, and I had just hit 10,000 subscribers. I honestly didn’t think I’d be recognized that much, but Sparkie Joy and I were the first ones at the meetup the night before GO Fest, and the community greeted us right away! It seemed so strange. People saying, “Hey, is that ZoTwoDots?,” asking for photos, and showing their support for what I do all weekend. It was wonderful.

Especially since I thought maybe 20 people would know who I was. Also, I had never met so many people from the community and the creator community in person before. I had only talked to the squad online up until that point, so finally being able to meet in person was a big deal. It was the first time I felt like I was a part of the community as a whole. Take the advice I wish I had listened to sooner: it doesn’t matter if you don’t have the best camera, phone, mic, gear, etc. JUST GET STUFF DONE. Go out and make some videos. So many people gave me this advice, but new creators are so focused on having “good cameras/gear” etc., and I was too.

Even just the video recording features on mobile phones are fine and of good quality. Start making videos with your phone. As harsh as this sounds (and it happened to me too), you’ll spend hours and hours making your first video, making sure everything is perfect before you finally upload it. and you’ll get 24 views. It’s terrible. But don’t let it stop you. Keep making videos and make them as if you have a thousand people watching, and you’ll get there.

You’re the thing they’re buying. Give them a unique point of view and personality. You can get the gear later. Also, the best advice is to be active on all social media and have real conversations with other creators in your field (not plugging your channel in other people’s comments section) Make friends and work together (go to the other creator with a full proposal for collaboration and an idea or concept).
